If Yi ever learned how to mix it up inside he could be a real player…I think the general assumption early on last year was that he’d start finishing around the basket more effectively as he adapted to the league, but he never really added much beyond that sweet perimeter jumper. The post game didn’t come, the finishing didn’t improve. And on the glass he just doesn’t come away with as many boards as you need from a 7-footer with plus athleticism.
Taking rebounding out of the equation, I think he does have good deal of defensive potential…he could use a bit more strength up top, but he’s got the feet and length to be a good defensive four. At least with the Bucks his work rate was always good.
