Bucks hire Kelvin Sampson

According to espn.com, Kelvin Sampson has joined Milwaukee's coaching staff as an assistant.

Sampson is best known for his telephone-related snafus at Oklahoma and Indiana.  After he left IU, he hung around San Antonio's coaching staff for a while with his buddy Gregg Popovich.  Not a bad coach to be connected with.

The guy certainly knows basketball.  Between him and Skiles, the coaching in Milwaukee is solid.

Plus, Sampson is a good communicator.

It’s a good hire, and the staff is shaping up pretty nicely. Boylan worked well as Skiles’ right-hand man in Chicago and Lionel Hollins has head coaching experience as well. Perhaps more importantly, Hollins was an all-defensive team guard who won a title in Portland.

The fact that Pop wanted Sampson’s help during the playoffs and Larry Brown wanted Sampson in Charlotte says something about how he’s viewed by the coaching community.
