Did anyone see...

...Chris Paul dominate San Antonio again???

I know what some people are thinking: He could be playing for us!  We took Andrew Bogut instead of CP3?!

Just remember, Bucks fans, we had T.J. Ford, pre-injuries and needed a big man.  Bogut is still worth the pick.

...But part of me just wonders...what would the Bucks be like had we drafted Paul over Bogut?  What would have happened?

Anybody want to entertain this hypothetical?

You wouldn’t take Bogut over Paul again though, would you? I can totally understand the thought process at the time, and it’s worth remembering Paul wasn’t even the first PG taken. And the Hawks probably feel worse about taking Marvin than we do about Bogut.

It’s an interesting (and somewhat painful) hypothetical, though. Cap-wise we’d probably be in equally bad shape since the Redd/Simmons/Gadzuric signings probably would have happened anyway. We might have matched Zaza’s offer sheet as well. But we’d also have an MVP-caliber point guard, which last time I checked is worth something…

The Portland Trailblazers want a do over also.

We traded the #3 pick to Utah to get Martell Webster at #6, because we already had Sebastian Telfair. At least TJ Ford looks (or in your case, looked?) pretty good, despite injury worries.

Hope it was okay for a Blazers fan to just pop in like that. I just found out that my internship is going to be near Milwaukee, and may have the opportunity to watch the Bucks on a more regular basis than my hometown team. So I’m interested to see what you guys have going on over here.

Ha, well I wish we had as much going for us as the Blazers have going for them…must be a fun time to be from Portland. I hope you enjoy your time in Milwaukee.

I had forgotten about that trade, but I suppose by itself it’s looking a lot worse than the Bucks taking Bogut. Although the funny part is that Telfair helped land you Brandon Roy in ‘06, so I think it all worked out :)

It is funny.

Jack and Blake had already surpassed Telfair on the depth chart in ‘05-’06, so I don’t know what Danny Ainge was thinking. Actually, before the Ray Allen trade, no one knew what Danny Ainge was thinking. He pretty much almost got fired for giving Brandon Roy away. He has since solved that problem (for the time being).

But Portland is in great shape, as long as everyone pans out the way they are expected to, which remains to be seen.

I think the Bucks have some interesting pieces to work with, and in the hands of a good GM, and with a little luck, you may have something. What I’ve learned from Portland (also not a big market team) is to find players who want to be good team guys. As long as they are there, they will bleed for Milwaukee. Those guys can be found, and, fortunately, there are getting to be more and more of them coming out of college. When Portland started to really rebuild, with Kevin Pritchard as GM, everyone involved knew it was going to be a process that took years, not months. Granted, Oden will speed that process up immensely for us, but 6% for you is higher than the 5.3% we had last year.

I’m still expecting another Portland miracle come lottery day, but the Bucks at #2 with Michael Beasley would be awfully good for you guys too. Best of luck! I’ll be pullin’ for you!
