Seattle/Milw - Proposed Trade
In an effort to address our need at PF and possibly go in a different direction at PG, I think that a trade with Seattle, dealing Mo and Mason for Ridnour and Chris Wilcox would benefit the Bucks.
Wilcox is more of a rugged PF who can rebound and possibly block a few shots, and has some scoring ability if need be.
Ridnour is somewhat of a defensive liability, but is more of pass-first PG than Mo and is a good distributor from what I've seen of him. I think a combo of him and Sessions would be pretty solid at PG.
The trade works according to ESPN. Any thoughts on this trade?

This strikes me as a pretty good trade offer, mainly because you’d be shedding a lot of longer term salary (Mo) and rebalancing the roster (adding a PF without losing a PG).
Basically you convert an expiring deal at a position you are overloaded at (Mason) for an expiring deal at a position of need (Wilcox). Aside from that, Wilcox is a better player at this point than Mason regardless of position. My main concern is that Wilcox’s defensive rep is fairly poor, so I’m not sure he answers the Bucks’ long-term needs at the 4, even ignoring his impending free agency. But you could certainly get by with Wilcox/CV at the four, even if it’s not ideal. I actually like Collison more than Wilcox, but his deal is longer and that might be a deal-breaker from a Bucks’ perspective.
On the other side, I think Mo is pretty clearly better than Ridnour, but Ridnour’s at least vaguely competent. He also is a couple mil cheaper per season than Mo and expires in 09/10, which means the Bucks save a lot in the longer term. I was actually going to suggest swapping Watson (who happened to break his thumb yesterday) for Ridnour on the premise that Watson’s a better defender, but 82games says the Sonics conceded fewer points on the court with Ridnour than Watson AND Ridnour held opponents to a lower opponent PER. So maybe Watson isn’t actually a better defender. I don’t see enough of the two guys to say.

Word, K_Ross. This is a great idea for a deal. I am not sure that Seattle wants a shoot-first PG to team with Durant, but I know they’ve soured on Ridnour and I think this is a wonderful trade that will never happen.

Any deal that would get rid of Mo Williams at this point would be good. But Ridnour? we would be getting a pass first point who can’t play defense either. I wish they would put Redds name out there. That would surely stir things up for the best. He is a great shoooter but thats all. You can find a ton of Michael Redds on almost any bench in the league. Please Mr Hammond if you want to get this town excited get him out of here and please consider getting rid of those horrible uniforms.

I love this deal for both teams. I don’t know how likely Seattle would do it considering they seem to be fairly short in the frontcourt. I know they are still deciding whether to sign Robert Swift or not, if they do, I think this trade is more likely to happen. Mitchell_M you said you don’t think it will happen… why not?

I subscribe to the Bill Simmons theory that if a trade makes sense for both teams, chances are it won’t happen. It’s cynical and oversimplified, but more often than not, teams pass on decisions that make (common) sense.
Don’t get me wrong, I like this trade. But I also have a terrible track record at predicting trades and such. I was convinced that Kobe would be traded and that Jason Kidd would never be traded. So read more into what I like/don’t like than whether I think it’ll happen or not; I’m too cynical for my own good.

I pray to Jesus, Allah, Buddah, and any other deity you can think of every single day, and my only wish is to see the Dunkin’ Dutchman end up in a non-Milwaukee uniform. Unless they use his salary as a piece of a blockbuster trade, what other team is going to take him?
Even my quasi-wisdom has its limits.

It seems like Dan’s contract was signed seven years ago, yet he always seems to have three more years left on it. The funny part is that he was actually really good the year before he signed his deal—granted, he didn’t need to get a six year deal when we had just picked Bogut, but he wasn’t useless by any stretch of the imagination.
It seems like he’s struggled ever since Kukoc left town…maybe a passer like Sessions will be able to get him back on track a bit. I don’t mind seeing him on the court so long as he isn’t shooting jump shots or getting post touches. And depending on what happens with our PF situation he could get more burn next to Bogut as well.
