San Antonio's 2nd Round Pick

I'm confused as to why Blair dropped so far when a lot of what I was reading (fan and NBA insider alike) he was a mid first rounder and a probable solid contributor right away. But I'm even more confused as to why he didn't end up on this increasingly young Bucks team. Could Blair have been the PF this team has been lacking for decades ... a true PF? It seems no one really would have guessed he would have dropped so far, but he could have been a Buck! What would it have taken for SA to simply include a 2nd round pick in the very lopsided RJ trade? My guess is that if Hammond was just a bit more adamant, he could have gotten that 2nd rounder that ended up being DeJuan Blair! And furthermore, SA has been known for evaluating talent and, given their choice for Blair in the 2nd round, it seems if they were willing to gamble on Blair, there must be something there.

Apparently when Blair’s ACLs were surgically repaired, his body somehow absorbed the scar tissue, leaving him with no ACLs. Basketball people have no idea what this means long term, but it’s imagined he’ll wear himself out (he’s still undersized and overweight, somewhat) in a few years.

Still, I would have taken him as early as mid first round.

A lot of fans from a lot of teams are freaking out about not picking up Blair.

But no ACL’s is quite a knock against you. Add that, as MadTown said above, to his undersized, overweight body and you’ve got a LOT of overcoming to do in order to succeed. Sure the skill is there, but all the skill in the world can’t help you in the NBA if your legs go out forever.

I agree wholeheartedly with your subject line, TD.

Would have been great to add him with a second rounder, as your risk is exceptionally low at that point.
