I might be high, but did the first round just get interesting?

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4956242

Shaquille O'Neal just had surgery on his thumb and he will be out 6-8 weeks.  There is the possibility that he wont be back for the first round of the playoffs.  Does anyone think this could help the Bucks? Look at what the Chicago Bulls did to the Celtics w/o Kevin Garnett

I am not saying that this makes them a shoe-in, but if Shaq is out, do you think The Bucks could make it interesting? If the Bucks stay in position and don't fade at the end, they will be a low seed. Would playing a Shaq-less Cavs team be better than playing Orlando Magic or the Hawks?  What do you think?

Can I vote for the Celtics :)

I want no part of LeBron, no matter who’s starting at center, but I agree that Shaq’s been a bad matchup for us even in his compromised, older state. I can’t really picture us beating anyone except maybe the Hawks, though we could certainly take a game or two off the Magic/Cavs.

Do you see the Bucks reaching a 5 seed?

It is concievable. They are only a game back of the Raps at this point. How sweet would it be to see the Bucks climb from the virtual cellar in January all the way to the 5 seed. That would be baller

baller it would be, indeed...

The Hawks are a physical team who on any given night can play with the big boys but they are also susceptible to let downs and are the team we can match up with across the board… Orlando and Cleveland have two guys we can’t match up with at all

Brandon Jennings

I’m definitely in the minority but I think we match up best with the Magic. Dwight Howard is playing a lot of minutes, and I think Bogut could ultimately neutralize him for a series. Considering our newfound size on the wings, I think we would match up well with them. And I think our bench could outplay theirs as well. And we’ve taken them to the wire this year once, only to have Brandon Jennings attempt a jump shot over Dwight Howard. If he learned his lesson, we could make Rd2.

I agree.

The Magic are liable to going cold and shooting themselves out of games. The Bucks’ defense will just help them do that more.

Go Rockets/Nets[CDR]/Bucks[Jennings]!

6th seed...

I would like the 6th seed… this way we(according to the standings right now) would play Atlanta(#3 seed) and then Orlando… and avoid Cleveland all together until the conference finals… this is really wishful thinking but that would be the easiest realistic path for us…

That said…. we really need to win tonight to keep this thing going… the team better still feel a sense of urgency when they play… i dont think they will get complacent but you never know

Well played.

I think it would be pretty greedy to suggest the Bucks get into the conference finals, but I wouldn’t complain. I’d say that the Hawks would be a better match up than the Celts. I know all of the Celtics are old, but clutch is clutch, The big three are as clutch as they come. Rondo is a very good PG.

The Hawks are good, but they haven’t performed in the play-offs the last couple of years. I’d rather take them on. Al Horford is good, but he isn’t the dominating big man we’d be playing against the Celts, Cavs, or Magic.
Between Luc R-M-A-M, Salmons, Stack, and Ilyasova – Joe Johnson & Josh Smith should be wrapped up pretty well.

I would honestly be happy with a first round series that goes 6 games...

That way we can get 3 home playoff games…
Anything more given this teams expectation level for the season would be gravy….

I like this team to make some noise in the East next season though…
They will add another rotation player through the draft coupled with Jennings, LRMAM, and Ilyasovas continued development…

This season has been alot of fun so far… it is so great to play meaningful games this late in the year…

Since we are kinda a rebuilding team, a trip to the playoffs would be great. We can be happy even with a first round knockout. Because at least we would make it.

well put,

couldn’t agree more

The Bucks can beat any team

Although they wouldn’t be favourites against anyone.

Vs. Atlanta it’s extremely close though, much more than what the standings suggest. Could go either way. The Bucks have plenty of wing defenders to throw at JJ and Crawford, defend the transition very well, have mobile bigs to harass Josh Smith, are very good taking care of the ball and protect the defensive board better than anyone. Tough matchup for the Hawks.

Orlando would also be an interesting series, lots of interesting 1×1 matchups.

I’d be less optimistic having to face Cleveland and especially Boston. I think the Bucks could put up a fight but ultimately lose to more talented teams.

The Bucks should be a good playoff team – playoffs are mostly about rebounding and defence and we have plenty of that; plus they foul a lot but in the PO refs tend to be more lenient towards over-aggressive play.

Agreed

Watched the Basketball Jones this morning and Skeets argued the same thing—that the teams you never want to face in the playoffs are the defensively-oriented ones. Playing that way just tends to keep you in games, and you can better survive bad luck and cold shooting when your success if more effort-derived. I hadn’t thought of the “let them play” effect, but that’s certainly an interesting point…though all of us who watched in 2001 probably worry it’s not always a two-way street…

2001

Not to rehash memories but what David Stern wants, David Stern gets. And really, did we expect Scott Williams to get calls v. the finger-wagger? “Who wants to have sex with Dikembe?”

I stand corrected

You would think it’s a rhetorical question. In a cosmopolitan city like WashDC, the Georgetown center probably massacred the bush like… Well I would think that genocidal references are still a bit too soon, so instead I’ll make a gynecological refer…. Ok, women and children probably read this too so instead, who do you think massacred more coeds, The Answer or the Finger-wagging sexster?
