Around SBN: MLB Trade Deadline: Phils, Astros complete Roy Oswalt deal

The best D-League site in the biz is reporting that the Bucks brought in a couple power forwards for a workout on Monday. Though neither Johnson nor Randolph looks like a long-term keeper, both guys more or less fit the physical 4/5 type the Bucks have been lacking to shore up their depth up front. Scott Schroeder writes:

I'm told the front office and coaches in attendance "loved (Johnson's) body, explosiveness, and physicality."

The Bucks are said to be deciding between the two and a wing player right now for a run at the playoffs, with a decision expected before the end of the week.

If they sign Alexander Johnson

Should we refer to him as J., Alexander?

Failure is just success rounded down.

This is good news… The Bucks are on a hot winning streak at the moment and any more bodies for the playoff push is needed for that edge they will need.. Go Bucks!!!

Would either player be elgible for the playoff roster?

No mistakes in the tango, Donna. Not like life. Simple. That's what makes the tango so great. If you make a mistake, and get all tangled up, you just tango on.....

I'm not sure Donald Sterling is a human being. He had to have been manufactured by someone, possibly David Stern, so that one team could solely just make profit for the NBA while doing nothing good for themselves. -- Aykis 16

Both would

Since neither was on an NBA roster past the deadline.

RidiculousUpside have been hyping Johnson so much

(even for their gaudy parameters when it comes to praising D-Leaguers) that I’ve decided to watch one of his games. Unfortunately his team isn’t featured in the Futurecast archives. I ended up watching a couple of games and the player who impressed (and surprised me more) was Mustafa Shakur – who was horrible just one year ago in the ACB. He seems much improved.

Anyway, between Johnson and Randolph the former is more the kind of player the Bucks could use as a 5th big to absorb some minutes. He used to have a bit, well, a lot, of Gadzuric in him but maybe he’s corrected part of that.

The D-Leaguers I’d like to see the Bucks trying out this Summer would be Othyus Jeffers and Anthony Tolliver. I think they’re at least fringe rotational players at this point of their careers but have the short-term potential of cracking a very good NBA rotation. Also that guard/wing defender that played with the Rockets and now signed with the Spurs, I liked his quickness. Also Reggie Williams, but it scares me how little he uses his off-hand.

Is that a dig?

“Gaudy parameters?”

Temple is good,

he would be nice for the Bucks here. [He’s the 6/6 PG/SG/SF combo you’re talking about.]

Go Rockets/Nets[CDR]/Bucks[Jennings]!

Hammond Keeps Impressing Me

First, a deadline trade that pays off and now he’s looking to the D League? This is great, I hope we go with Johnson. Randolph was never special when I saw him and I tend to like no names from the D League better than castoffs from the NBA who ended up there. I remember Randolph as big and immobile. And super thin. We need toughness, not another Small Forward impersonator.

I remember people wishing we had taken Johnson rather than David Noel back in the ‘06 second round. AJ had some moments with the Grizz, then faded into the background and was cut before his second season. I don’t have any insight to his game beyond what Scott wrote, but I don’t think a guy of his type could hurt from an insurance perspective. We’re completely and utterly screwed if Bogut is hurt either way, but hopefully we won’t have to deal with that anytime soon.

I think....

when the 3rd string replacement for a tired/injured/offday/australia day holiday/beer binge Bogut spell….are Dan Gadz & the Primoz and Kurt Thomas who is a solid pro but it would have been nice to have had him 5 years ago….Id take some insurance anyday, hopefully whomever is taken is needed only for not much
