Ramon Sessions, a simple answer

There was a long discussion on trying to work a trade Kevin Love, and that is still a great idea if you ask me. What I would love to see is Hammonds get The Ramonster back in MKE.

He would be a great back-up point gaurd and a great accesory to the back-court starring Jennings.

The guy is used to playing second fiddle now, doesn't get as much play as he should. He will average about $4 mil a year for the next three years. That is a better price than what Ridnour was getting as our Back-up PG.  He also has experience playing the 2. He and Ridnour ran the set often two years ago.

Sessions can actually take the ball to the cup and score, getting to the line as well. Which are two things the Bucks couldn't do this season. I don't know what it would take to get the young man back on the team, or if he would really want to, but it's worth a try.

The Bucks are become more skilled, but they need to be more marketable.  Sessions is a player who was buzz-worthy. Think about those two months last summer when there were headlines with a new suitor for Sessions every-other day. He is an exciting player to watch and brings more toughness in a Bucks-back-court that could use it.

What do you think?

Who are you thinking we offer for this deal?

I was devastated when we lost Ramon, but he didn’t do ANYTHING in Minnesota (8pts/3asts/21min), so he didn’t inspire me to try to get him back. That being said, if Rubio decided to play for the Wolves for 10-11, Sessions immediately becomes an expendable piece. A third string PG making $4 million would be a mistake.

Kevin Love would be awesome, and it seems like he doesn’t fit in Minnesota. However, I think even though he isn’t getting burn that Minnesota still knows his upside. We wouldn’t be able to get him for free. That’s for sure.

Charlie Bell for Ramon straight up works. Only way I see that happening is if Rubio comes back.

A realistic trade scenario would likely be:
Bell/Delfino/1st Rounder
Love/Sessions

I don’t think I’m willing to throw that 1st rounder and Delfino for Kevin Love. I’d rather go for a star like in my other thread:
http://www.brewhoop.com/2010/5/6/1460927/free-agent-scenario

What were you thinking for a trade?

by everyoneruns on May 7, 2010 12:27 PM CDT reply actions

Minnesota's not that dumb!

“Realistic” to trade two nobodies and a first rounder for a double double machine that was the 5th pick in the draft? And a point guard who’s still young and getting better? i don’t think so

by philthebballplayer on May 8, 2010 5:01 PM CDT up reply actions

I would not call Delfino a nobody...

Sure, he was inconsistent this year, but he didn’t shy away from clutch moments and I believe he won us some games with his three point shot. Kevin Love is a great talent, but they sure aren’t utilizing him in Minnesota, so my assumption is that he isn’t quite fitting in with the team.

by everyoneruns on May 9, 2010 9:43 AM CDT up reply actions

Delfino also has a very nice contract

The fact that only $500k of his salary is guaranteed is a big deal, especially with so many teams trying to clear up even more cap dollars. When I first heard the talk about Beasley being available my first thought was whether you could get Miami to bite on something involving Delfino, just so they could cut him and free up more cap space. Then you could even try to re-sign Carlos later in the summer…

by Frank Madden on May 9, 2010 10:44 AM CDT up reply actions

I think were we are we have to look at all our chips likely and use whatever we can

while I loved this team, currently we are first round quality, second round maybe with Bogut and we have to look at what we can do to improve creatively, if that means utilising guys like Delfino contract and Ilyasova I guess Its sad but we have to at least consider it

by ILIKEBJ'S on May 9, 2010 11:29 AM CDT up reply actions

with our system and Skiles coaching.....

I can see plenty of role playing guys who could fit in and do a job on a reasonable contract, just hypotehtically say Delfino gets moved we can say sign a guy like Travis Outlaw on the cheap to kinda fill the same role and he could be relatively effective he has the tools and Skiles can get the best out whatever we have

by ILIKEBJ'S on May 9, 2010 11:34 AM CDT up reply actions

I like the Travis Outlaw talk

If we didn’t already have Delfino and LRMAM at the 3, I’d be pulling for Outlaw in Milwaukee.

by everyoneruns on May 9, 2010 11:53 AM CDT up reply actions

seems like a value option, athletic can score abit, needs to pick up on the defence....

but on this team you either make the effort or sit so thats pretty non negotiable, I think our advantage with Skiles and this team we can search for some unpolished gems because you dont need to be a great defender just a willing one

by ILIKEBJ'S on May 9, 2010 12:06 PM CDT up reply actions

You're scenario would work well.

Trading for both Love ans Sessions would be perfect. Bell/First Rounder/Gadz’s Contract/(poss. Second Round Pick)

That might do it. I would hate to lose Delfino. His D is a necessary, and seems to come alive when no one else will.

I understand your concern over Sessions not getting much burn in MN, but we all saw him develope from the D league into a starter, He had 9 double doubles, a triple double, and a game with 44 points in 08-09. It’s MN’s fault if they can’t figure out how to use him.

I didn't really consider DG an option....

Good point. At this stage, he becomes an asset. But I don’t know that I really do in this case. He is an expiring contract, but for this trade I think we’d need to trade talent for talent. And I don’t think Hammond would give up two draft picks for Sessions and Love.

Agreed on the Wolves. Given the right system I think he could be a great backup. However I think I’d rather take Ridnour depending on what we could sign him for.

by everyoneruns on May 7, 2010 1:15 PM CDT reply actions

I doubt it

Gadz and Bell have little appeal to MN especially for Love. Love has a rookie contract which every team in the NBA would love to acquire. Gadz and Bell? They might as well buy out $15 million in their own contracts.

Bell/Delfino/1st Rnd Pick? for Love/Sessions? Maybe, but still unlikely, MN already has 3 first round picks in 2010. If MN would do this, MKE would be foolish not to take it.

by FearTheDeer on May 7, 2010 3:07 PM CDT reply actions

I think with Sessions you can throw out what happened in Minnesota this season.....

and give him a free pass…..it was like the twilight zone……running a system they couldnt make work with their players, then benching Love for Darko/Hollins combo

cant see them even considering Love without Getting Ilyasova in the deal but maybe im over estimating Kahn ;)………..plus if Delfino is involved we are screwed at Small forward pretty much

guess it depends on how the Bucks see this draft playing out as to whether they make a move……….listening to Hammonds they are going to have to get creative

by ILIKEBJ'S on May 7, 2010 9:06 PM CDT reply actions

I'd guess Ilyasova would have to be involved to get Love

As mentioned they have already have a ton of draft picks, and we’re not loaded with other tradable assets. I agree that Gadz and Bell probably don’t have any use right now—probably need to wait until the trade deadline to move Gadz, unless the Bucks want to do a big trade where they take on some serious long-term salary.

As for Sessions, I think now would be a good time for someone to snap him up while his value is low. The draft will determine a lot for Love/Sessions—if they draft Cousins/Favors then obviously Love becomes very expendable, while drafting Wall would have to make Flynn, Rubio and Sessions all very available.

by Frank Madden on May 8, 2010 11:36 AM CDT reply actions

Love would be a great fit for the Bucks

The Bucks have only 4 keepers: Bogut, Jennings, Salmons and Mbah a Moute. K-Love would fit in very well alongside a true C in Bogut, who would also cover up for any of his shortcomings on the defensive end. He’d also have good chemistry with Brandon and Luc, both of whom he’s played with.

The starting price for Love would be Ilyasova and a 1st. I’m sure that the Wolves wouldn’t mind dumping Sessions’ 4mill/year contract considering their overload at the PG position.

So maybe an Ilyasova + this year’s 1st + Delfino’s expiring for Love + Sessions deal would be what it takes to get Love in a Bucks uniform.

Lemme know what you think guys.

by the_craze on May 8, 2010 3:44 PM CDT reply actions

I’d hesitate at anything that would require the Bucks to give up Ilyasova or LRMAM. Salmons is probably more expendible than Ilyasova. But it sounds along the lines of the type of deal that would appeal to MN too so they may accept it. I’d almost say the Bucks may be the ones losing out tho.

by FearTheDeer on May 8, 2010 4:10 PM CDT reply actions

I think we need to be realistic about our assets and liabilities........

Id say only Bogut/Jennings are untouchable, ok Dan Gadz also but in a different kinda way ;)………everyone else should be available if the right deal is there where we feel we can add a third long term chip……….and lets face it the the guys with any trade value that appeal to other teams would be Ilyasova, Prince and maybe Defino all three whom are on very good deals………..

Now in Ilyasova’s case it depends entirely on where the Bucks see his potential, If they see him as a key then ok I guess he is off the table, and when Indiana were talkin about Murphy the Bucks didnt want to deal Ilyasova from what I read so we have some precedent………..I wouldnt want to give him up but for Kevin Love a great rebounder who could fit in well with Bogut and allow us to then look at a shot blocking 2nd rounder…..and means we have 3 long term guys in place

No way Bucks give up both Ilyasova & Delfino in the same deal…….I could see it being Ilyasova+pick 15+Bell for that package

by ILIKEBJ'S on May 8, 2010 4:38 PM CDT reply actions

I’m glad Hammond didn’t bite on that Murphy trade, but I’d definitely part with Ersan to get Love. I just think Love’s ceiling is higher than Ersan’s, and KL is already a very productive player.

by Frank Madden on May 8, 2010 10:43 PM CDT reply actions

yeah unless ur the Lakers with Gasol you normally have to give up something to get someone good ;)

its an interesting one Love is definitely more polished and a more consistent contributor at this stage and will be a long term starter………..not that Im not high on Ersan’s improvement but Love seems a great fit with Bogut

by ILIKEBJ'S on May 8, 2010 11:10 PM CDT up reply actions

That trade doesn't look so ridiculous any more

Memphis is paying Marc Gasol $3.5 million to put up close to 15/10. He’s not quite Pau, but he’s developed into a fantastic asset.

by Frank Madden on May 8, 2010 11:43 PM CDT up reply actions

I like Sessions

He could be a combo guard. Also Love and Bogut is a scary combo. I also hope the Bucks can someway sign Al Harrington, maybe in a trade Harrington for RIdinour. Thats if the Bucks get Sessions. Then draft a forward.
Jennings
Salmons
Luc Richard Mbah a Moute
Love
Bogut
sixth man Harrington
I think that this trade goes down if Minnesota gets 3-4 which they probably will and draft either Cousins or Favors. Then trade Love, Ryan Gomes, and Sessions for the Bucks first and second rounder plus Delfino and either Dan Gadzurich or Bell

Definitely hoping Minny doesn’t get a piece of the Wall/Turner sweepstakes for the reason you mentioned.

Harrington could be an interesting option as a sixth man—he obviously brings scoring punch and can stretch the floor. Though I’m not sure we need another undersized 4. I’d prefer a guy like Gooden with more size.

by Frank Madden on May 14, 2010 10:53 AM CDT up reply actions

I never like Dwight Gooden,

probably because he’s not at all, in any way shape or form Flashy. He just sits down below, gets his boards. If he does become a Buck, I would suggest a nick-name of “The Garbage Man” This would make me happy with Gooden

The Bucks would definitely be contenders if they pulled these deals off

Also whats the word on Salmons does he stay or go

Realistic

Do you guys really expect Minnesota to trade Love and Sessions for Erson, Delfino, Gadz, Bell and our first rounder or some combination of that? They have 3 first rounders…they don’t need a 4th. Erson and Delfino are cheap, but role players right now. Gadz…Does Minny really need an expiring contract that bad to want him? Love has 18-10 written all over him and he won’t come cheaply. I suppose you can dream, but if you were Minnesota would you do that trade?

by Alphons on May 24, 2010 9:12 AM CDT reply actions

MN isn't MEM

Plus there is waaaaaay too much of a Lovefest going on right now for KL. To the point where the wolves fans at least wouldn’t trade him unless they get an all star. I think if the wolves trade anyone it is Al simply because his contract would match up better with the type of player they want to get in some type of deal.

by TheEvilProfessor on May 27, 2010 8:57 AM CDT up reply actions

All their picks definitely hurt our chances

You’re right about that…if they had one first rounder and picked Cousins/Favors at #4 then offering up Ersan/1st for Love probably looks a bit more tempting (though perhaps still not enough). You could argue it makes a lot of sense for both Philly and Minny to try to swap the 2 and 4 picks, allowing Minny to get Turner and Philly can get another quality big man or Wesley Johnson and then have another pick or two to play with. But that all comes down to whether Philly sees Turner as head and shoulders above whoever would be available at #4, or for that matter if they love Favors they could also just take him at #2 and be done with it.

Either way, Kahn’s going to be looking to make trades if he picks another big man. I’m not sure the Bucks have the ammo to get Love for the reasons you mentioned, though Ersan’s young enough that some people might like his upside a lot more than others.

by Frank Madden on May 24, 2010 12:16 PM CDT up reply actions

I wonder........

with alot of teams under financial strain, Ersan’s contract as much as his potential and upside make him a fairly attractive asset when you look at any trades

by ILIKEBJ'S on May 24, 2010 1:03 PM CDT up reply actions

sessions back....NO THANKS

ive been saying it since he was with the bucks…the guy isnt a nba player…..all he can do is drive the ball…which he never finishes…and gets to the line…..he is a TERRIBLE jump shooter….at this point i woould much rather resign ridnour who cana shoot the ball, is a better passer and doesnt turn the ball over that much….getting kevin love i would like…but not if we have to take back a player that cant make a 5 foot jump shot.

by Mark Evenson on May 26, 2010 2:25 PM CDT reply actions

i know that everyone has their night... but you don't get tripple doubles by accident.

And what is wrong with being able to get to the line? No one currently on the roster can do it.
Session averaged over 6 assists per game when he was with the Bucks. That’s better than Jennings.

He’s in his third year in the league, he wont be a premier shooter, but he is young and can develope a shot.

by Take Back Our Bucks on May 27, 2010 8:18 AM CDT up reply actions

haha ya

and most point guards dont shot 3 pointers at 20% like he does…you all keep going back to what he did with the bucks….what did he do last yr in min? not much but sit the bench where he belongs…minn knows they made a mistake signing him to a contract for 4 yrs. they braught him in to be there starting pg….then they draft flynn to compete with him and flynn beats him out….i remmeber watching a few t wolves games…sessions lines usually read about 2-11 shooting, 3 assists, 4 turnovers in 20 mins…not good at all…like i said b4 ridnour is way way way better a backup pg…only thing sessions has on him is hes more athletic…..and thats about all….thank god sessions isnt on the bucks anymore

by Mark Evenson on May 27, 2010 1:27 PM CDT up reply actions

The hit on Sessions was that he wasn't athletic.

Is that really what his lines always looked like? Because that would contradict with the Highest fg percentage of his career @ .456, with over 8 ppg? And yes, at 4 mil. Do you know how much Ridnour made this year? 6.5 mil. In his best year as a pro. Lets see how much Ridnour wants next year.

Minny didn't bring in Sessions to be the starter

Check your timeline…he was signed after they drafted both Flynn and Rubio. It was purely a value move to get him on the cheap.
