Fa Class 2011
Does the relative weakness in the FA class of 2011 hurt us in trying to dump expirings this year? I was hoping that the FA 2010 bidders that come up dry would be all over us to get Gadz and Redd but maybe not so if the pot of gold at the end of the 2010-2011 rainbow is not full of gold. Would be nice to get some assets for them sooner rather than later.

From what I understand – expiring contracts are most desirable at the trading deadline, so I don’t see anything happening w/ Redd & Gadz before then.
But you make a good point that teams aren’t going to be willing to take on big $$$ for a coveted FA in the off season. At least not like this past season.
To your first question: yes
It’s definitely a weaker class in 2011, so there will be fewer teams desperate to clear cap space to sign FAs. That said, you always have teams paying the luxury tax or otherwise looking to shed salary to make their budgets a bit more rational.
I agree with Victor that it’s unlikely we see a Redd/Gadz deal until we’re into the season a bit. That’s especially of true of Redd since we have no idea if/when he’s going to try to come back. If we knew for sure that he wasn’t coming back this season then it’d be helpful since his contract will be 80% covered, but as of now it seems like no one knows for sure what will happen with him.
Redd come back
Is Redd’s contract 80% covered until he plays in a regular season game? a preseason game? A D League game? Some other variant? How exactly does the coverage work?

I think if a player misses more than half a season [41games] insurance covers 80% of the players salary – but his salary still counts against the cap.
I think : )
Yeah, once 41 straight games are missed the insurance kicks in—so Redd’s salary started to be 80% covered towards the end of last season and will continue to be until he comes back. My understanding is that once he comes back the clock is reset and the insurance goes away even if he reinjures himself immediately, but I’ve heard some contradictory things about that aspect of the NBA’s insurance policy. I also don’t know if it matters what kind of game it is—I’d guess if it’s any type of NBA-affiliated game it would count as a sign of him no longer being injured.
Yao Ming is a FA next year...
let’s sign him and pair Yao and Bogut in the middle…. Twin Towers!!
jk of course…
Kirilenko, Tony Parker, Carl Landry, Jeff Green, Brandan Wright, Joakim Noah, Kendrick Perkins, Tyson Chandler, Jamal Crawford are all guys of some interest in 2011...
although most of them are restricted FA’s…
I wouldn’t mind overpaying a little for Wright in 2011 because he still hasn’t had a chance to really prove his worth but I think he will be pretty good…
Is it just me or does the whole of the NBA drool over getting a chance to strip away the talent that is wasted in GSW?
I’ve always been kinda smitten w/ B Wright – and he’s stuck in GS – so you can’t judge his body of work in the NBA too closely or harshly.
He was regarded as one of the players having the highest potential as a pro when he came out.
Just sayin….
no I agree..........plenty of guys who can play in GSW and who would be developing much better if they could get out of Nellies grasp :)
Brandon Wright & Randolph being the two obvious ones….though injuries pretty much ruined their years last season
Wright's been very productive in his limited opportunities
But it’s amazing how little chance he’s had to show his stuff…Nellie + shoulder surgery last year has made him a forgotten man. I’m sure he could shock some people if he got into the right situation.
Of that list, the only players the bucks should look at are:
Landry – but sac will prob sign him long-term
J Green – OKC might have to let him walk so they can sign Durant & Westbrook long-term
Perkins – would be a great back-up, if he’d be willing
The one other FA in 2011 I really like is Tayshawn Prince – he’s also unrestricted – but i dont know how old he is.
not really jumping up and down about any of those guys..........its the draft for me
Landry-great guy but we have enough great guys who are undersized……if you like Landry you can get Craig Smith for half the price
Jeff Green-looks a lot better when he is playing next to Durant
Perkins-someone will overpay him hope its not us
I was wondering if anyone would bring up Prince & Hamilton……….any interest in taking a huge punt on their pedigree and ignoring their ridiculous Im now getting paid for my stellar play 5 years ago contract………..for the Bucks no but I could see Hamilton fitting in nicely in Orlando’s set up
The role-playing scorer
I like those types as well—that’s basically what Salmons was for us. It’s nice to have a guy who can score 18-20 ppg but doesn’t bring a superstar sense of entitlement along with it.
supposedly... i havent seen him play much...
that is one of the reasons i like andersen though…

DX on Anderson...
“Anderson is clearly the centerpiece of the Cowboys’ offense, as they run him off a huge number of screens on virtually every possession in an attempt to get him open looks. Staggers, flairs, curls, down-screens—any shot they can get him with his feet set is a good possession for them. Anderson’s shooting ability is simply outstanding, as he boasts excellent form, consistent mechanics, a quick release, and terrific range on his jump-shot. Despite shooting just 36% from beyond the arc this season (more an indication of the type of defenses that are thrown at him than anything), Anderson projects as a high-level NBA shooter any way you slice it when looking at the way he can put the ball in the net.
More than just a spot-up shooter, about a third of Anderson’s jumpers come off the dribble, of which he converts an excellent 43.4% according to Synergy Sports Technology. At 6-6, he needs very little space to get his shot off, as despite getting just average elevation on his jumper, he is able to fade away and create enough separation from his defender to get a good look, while still holding his mechanics steady.
"
Sounds perfect for Skile's motion offense.

yes one of George, Henry, Anderson will do nicely
Henry & Anderson might be able to contribute a bit earlier at shooting guard im not sure George can play alot of minutes at SG at pro level?
yup Rip is 32 and has *ahem* he re-upped for 3 seasons at about 30 million a season ago right?
guy was an efficient shooter………killer off those screens…….Id still be tempted to have a flirt
Dumars’ decision to trade Billups for Iverson and then immediately give Rip that big extension might go down as the worst week of basketball decision making in the last decade.
Iverson for billups
Probably one of the worst trades of the decade, on Detroit’s part. That and the Devin Harris for Jason Kidd one for Dallas (Hm…. let’s trade an up and coming talent for a guy past his prime….Makes sense…)
And of course they’re was the Gasol trade… But there was obviously something sketchy about that…

The Gasol trade was TOTALLY sketchy….
But I don’t hink the Kidd/Harris trade is as BAD as people make it out to be – mainly because Harris has never lived up to his hype/potential.
He’s a good player – but over rated.
and Kidd has been solid for Dallas – nowhere near what he once was – but still solid.
Agreed… but he gets a slight mulligan as he pretty much built the 2004 title team from trades.
Chauncey – trade [i think]
Rip – trade
Prince – the only player he actually drafted
Rasheed – trade
Wallace – trade
Did he get McDyess in a trade??
Trades
Both Billups and McDyess were acquisitions, I know Billups was a Celtic draft pick later traded to the Raptors, and McDyess was Phoenix I think.
So there ya go….. all the starters, except for Prince, were acquisitions by Dumars – and McDyess was too – AD was HUGE for them, if i remember correctly
So give Joe D a bit of a Mulligan on the AI and Rip deals.
Of course, then he also over payed for Charlie V and Ben Gordon, so he may have used all his Mulligans : )
Just to make a spelling/grammar enquiry...
…but over there in the US, is the correct spelling of the word paid P-A-Y-E-D? Down here in Oz it is spelled (spelt?) P-A-I-D…ie overpaid. I only bring it up because it a high volume word on many NBA blogs at the moment and the p-a-y-e-d spelling comes up nearly every time. I know there are tons of spelling variances between American and Australian English, just wanted to clarify if this was one of them.
Anyway, basketball. I’d be tempted to take Noah to play PF…tho I don’t know how he’d react to coming to MIL after Squad 6’s ‘Dude looks like a lady!’ serenade ;)

P-a-i-d it is
Spelling is suffering lately…..chat, text etc. Lotta people don’t care either. Some American spellings are different color/colour center/centre but payed is just bad spelling
by CanadaBucks on Jun 10, 2010 10:24 AM CDT up reply actions
I hear what you are saying though
My grammar sucks but I try to spell correctly.
Failure is just success rounded down.
Yes, it’s p-a-i-d ……. i made a mistake.
and Noah??? He’s a center not a PF – Bogut would have to play PF if Noah came to milw.
Plus….. Noah is an immature, arrogant, douchebag. No Thanks.
No Offense
Sorry I wasn’t taking a shot at you. my spelling fails sometimes too, and Noah ain’t happening anyway. We gotta go draft to get a 4 that will compliment Bogut I think.

haha I get confused here sometimes too center centre & color colour gets me all the time I just randomly switch them now
plus my typing sukcs oh snap there it is
Ditto
I’m not a spelling nazi (but yes, I am a teacher!), was more curious to establish grammar and spelling norms :)
Thanks for the feedback guys!

LOL!
Yep, I said I’d be tempted…not actually pull the plug and get him :)
Totally agree with the ‘Noah is an immature, arrogant, douchebag’ comment, too much like his dad, only nowhere near as cool.

that was the killer.......
okay he took a chance and traded Billups, which has proved to be the wrong deal but at the time alot of the press was saying it was a sage move as iverson was expiring as well
then he re-ups Rip, which is a terrible deal but sometimes you reward a guy for past championship deals I guess…….kinda like Ginobli just got………..but then the kick in the backside is using that cap space to sign Gordon/Charlie V combo yikes………………stranger than fiction
Charlie V
How many of the fans that were all over Hammonds for not offering him a contract maintain that stance now?
i was esctatic when they didn't resign Charlie V... i have always disliked his game... just a volume shooting big who doesn't rebound or play defense... gross...
i was more torn on signing ramon sessions or not which with the way things have turned out i am glad we didn’t although i don’t know if it would have been the worst move to sign him either…

Id like to get some opions on the value of signing Josh Childress?
I say his cost is to much for whereabouts we are and what he brings to the table………I like his versatility and his team first game………but he isnt especially a great shooter or scorer right? he is a decent defender has some great length etc etc and if we were more advanced and you thought he would be a great guy off the bench to push you into the conference finals say Id take a swing…………
but I feel for where we are look at working on the draft and maybe a guy like Travis Outlaw who has some potential on the right team to be a like for like contributor but at a much cheaper price?
That depends.
How much do you think Childress would command?

Atlanta Option
Atlanta has a 4.8m option for this year and he is restricted so I think it might cost a bit. I think as mentioned he’d be a greath 6th or 7th for a true contender.
Qualifying Offer
Not an option but a qualifying offer. He has until July 15th to decide if he is going to opt out of his contract in Greece.
Childress improved quite a bit this season
His shooting ability is much improved and he’s defending better. I used to think of him as more of a 8th man with too much hype but now he’s a legit primary wing backup for a contender.
It depends on the price. It’ll probably take the full MLE for 5 years to make Atlanta blink and I think that’s too expensive. Now with Woodson gone maybe he’ll sign a contract with the Hawks.
S & T
Maybe Atlanta would do a sign and trade and take Charlie Bell in return as they look for veteran leadership to go deeper into the playoffs.
Try typing that with a straight face
by CanadaBucks on Jun 12, 2010 10:20 AM CDT up reply actions
haha I think Atlanta just showed how tight fisted they are by firing Woodsen.......
what a cop out they dont have to re up him now that his contract is done……..and they hired his assistant so the plan will be the same which kinda blows the argument that they had reached the max with this style and coach
Yup.
Atlanta was looking for the cheapest way out, and they got it…

Shane Battier
Personally, I don’t think he’s leaving Houston, but if there’s any free agent I’d like to have, it would be that guy. He seems perfect for the Bucks.

Then again he's not getting any younger....

interesting thoughts......
guys like Childress, Battier are great to have on the team but as we saw game 4 its nice to have some guys on the bench who can be an X factor the Bucks kinda lack that at the moment some scoring punch, its a bit predictable I feel………..I know someone mentioned a guy like Eddie House a while back, also Bill Walker in NY could be interesting someone who can bring some scoring punch
Nate Robinson???
He’d be cheaper than Ridnour – and Skiles might be the coach that he needs to tap his potential….. but then again, Skiles might strangle him, too.
He’s a big-time sparkplug…. but I can’t tell if he’s just silly, and a good guy – or if he’s a selfish head-case. Maybe both.
But it’d be fun to watch : )
Not sure about that one.
He’s good in spurts but only seems interested in playing for a contender. That, and his somewhat… How should I say this… Laid back manner? I don’t want that transferring like a black plague on a Skiles coached team.
