Bucks looking at Big Z???

Let's talk about players on the backsides of there careers, Milwaukee's had a ton of them. Bob Lanier during the 80's, Moses Malone in the 90's, with a brief stint for former New York Knick and San Antonio Spur Kurt Thomas last year. All of these players heralded their knowledge to the younger players when needed while padding their ever so apparent retirement funds. But does Milwaukee have a love affair with past their prime players? Players with no team right now have very little interest from other teams in the new CBA according to league officials, so leave it to history for the Bucks organization to engineer patchwork pick up's where they may be needed for league minimum salary. The former Cavalier and Wizard, Zydrunas Ilgauskas is name floating around the Bucks waiver wire to fill that back up need. Milwaukee Bucks Assistant Coach Kalvin Sampson insists that the team is looking to have a game ready backup reserve in place by the seasons opening. Though, Ilgauskas may have an interest in the super team over in Miami. Do the "Three Kings" wanna washed up sidekick from the "LeBron James Era" in Cleveland? Milwaukee would gladly take him for some extra front court depth. I think he could become a serviceable back up to Andrew Bogut for a feasible short term fee, while still promoting significant skill greater than a Dan Gadzuric or starting a daisy fresh rookie like Tiny Gallon. Ilgauskas still has a descent mid range game with his 7'2'' length which will draw certain teams outside of the block on offense to create an opening for other players on the Bucks roster. I really think Ilgauskas was lost on that Cleveland team, and disillusioned at the same time falling silent in Mike Brown's offense during the playoffs. People speculate that "Big Z" has been working hard to get back into game shape in his New York off season area. They are saying when they have spoken with Zydrunas, He states that if "(Detroit) Piston's Center Ben Wallace has the gas to go another 2 seasons, so can I!"

Wouldn't mind having him as a backup.

I really do think he’ll go to Miami though, but I still want them to have the crappiest supporting cast ever, so I’d be happy to take Z off the market’s hand. Although that would make me feel even sorrier for Cleveland that they lost both LeBum AND Z.

I think Z would be all right in our system.

I think he would be no worse for wear than having Thomas another season. Definitely an upgrade over a Primoz Bresec!

by Marko Schmidt on Jul 11, 2010 8:56 PM CDT up reply actions

I don't think there's any money for this kind of move

We effectively have two roster spots and one has to be a backup PG. Could go big with the other, but I can’t see Z signing for next to nothing, which is all the Bucks can offer. I assume he’ll want either more money or a spot on a “real” contender like the Heat.

by Frank Madden on Jul 11, 2010 10:44 PM CDT reply actions

I'm gonna wager that Marko made this one up....

Z won’t play for the minimum & he’ll want to play for a contender….. LAL, Miami, Dallas, etc….

Are Kurt Thomas or Kwame Brown still available?? I’d think you could get either one for pretty cheap, at this point…..

by victor s on Jul 12, 2010 11:25 AM CDT reply actions

how cheap tho? If Petro is going for what $3 million a season I dont know what cheap is now

Good point... I'd guess around the league minimum, maybe a bit more...

The Bucks have just over 3mil to play with….

Unless they make a trade for a PG – I’d like to see them use their BAE on a PG, and the reamining 1mil or so on a 3rd C….

by victor s on Jul 12, 2010 2:01 PM CDT reply actions

I really hope we get KT back.....

"That," says LeBron, "is for everyone that watches me play. They witness something special. You're all a witness."

by ILIKEBJ'S on Jul 12, 2010 2:42 PM CDT up reply actions

I don't think it'll be a $$$ issue w/ KT - as I don't see anyone paying him much more than the min.

His career is just about over, so I’m guessing he wants to go to title contender.

I’d love to have him back, but it looks doubtful, IMO.

by victor s on Jul 12, 2010 2:49 PM CDT reply actions

KT is perfect for the Heat

If he doesn’t go to the Heat, it’ll surprise the hell out of me.

by FearTheDeer on Jul 12, 2010 2:50 PM CDT reply actions

Stackhouse too

I could see them both taking most of the year off and signing right b4 the deadline.

Whaddayaknow

Soon as I say it, ESPN posts it

“When you look at a situation with Miami now and having to try and fill their roster with minimum-type contracts …. I would take one of those minimum contracts if they’re available,” Stackhouse said with a smile

by FearTheDeer on Jul 12, 2010 2:55 PM CDT up reply actions

Yeah, I think he said that on NBATV.

Hmm

So essentially the Miami 1st unit will be a 2010 All Star squad and the Miami 2nd unit will be a 2000 All Star squad.

Eagerly awaiting SBN Madison.

Haha

They’ll be tough to beat, even in a world with time machines

by Frank Madden on Jul 12, 2010 5:50 PM CDT up reply actions

Once they get a center...

who can rebound and protect the paint, they won’t be perfect. Bosh and Haslem are good offensively but both are suspect on D. Once they find that center they will be unstoppable IMO

*er

meant to say once they get that center, they WILL be perfect

by Dow Jones on Jul 12, 2010 6:30 PM CDT up reply actions

I agree that w/ a C, they'd be pretty dominating.... but where are they gonna get one?

They can’t spend anymore [i dont think] and they’ve traded away alot of their picks for the next few years…

You may see Kwame Brown as their C this year….if that.

Bring back Doleac!

Eagerly awaiting SBN Madison.

by TheJay on Jul 12, 2010 6:56 PM CDT up reply actions

Shaq...

said he’d play for the minimum in Miami…a duo of Shaq and Z would be pretty formidable, no? Plus he’s already played with LBJ and D-Wade and has played with another athletic 4 in Stoudamire so he knows how to do it…

yeah I was thinking the same thing......tho they seem to be looking at Juwan Howard at the moment

anyway thats kinda funny the Heat eventually looking at Stack for a bench player....

and the Bucks having upgraded from Stack…….weird

by ILIKEBJ'S on Jul 12, 2010 2:59 PM CDT reply actions

This whole experiment may blow up in Miamis face....

1. They need to fill out their roster w/ more than washed-up stars and D leaguers
2. They have a HUGE hole in the middle – who’s gonna play C?
3. No front-court beef – Haslem & J O’Neal are gone, and Bosh is finesse 4, not a power guy
4. Chalmers looks to be their starting PG – but he’s really more of a backup, IMO.
5. Chemistry – I think Bosh will fit in, but will LBJ be able to play on D Wades team?

P.S. – I know Haslem is still a FA – but several other teams will offer more $ than Miami can…. and he already has a ring, so I doubt he’d take less to play in Miami, like some guys might.

by victor s on Jul 12, 2010 3:10 PM CDT reply actions

the key to facing the heat will be Interior defense

right now they don’t have anyone who has a reliable outside shot,

Go Beer, I mean Bucks

by Take Back Our Bucks on Jul 12, 2010 6:26 PM CDT up reply actions

I agree...

about finding a capable starting big man and PG….Haslem has agreed to resign with Miami but he doesn’t play D. LBJ/D-Wade will probably share PG duties tho for the time being until Riley can bring in more natural fits for those positions.

"I want someone who will, you know, let me put it in or who [will] suck on it." – Donald Sterling

by Dow Jones on Jul 12, 2010 6:33 PM CDT up reply actions

The HEAT think they are going to be invincible, 3 Players against a whole team I think the Bucks still stand a chance of winning because of our depth?
Derrick Fisher is not coming to be their PG because Jordan Farmar went to the Nets. So Fisher is coming back with the Lakers. The Lakers are still BETTER than that team!
None of them know how to win on there own…Not LBJ not CB4…and Wade still had SHAQ!
We will definitely have our hands filled, but Bosh is a soft ..Wade can be contained, it is what it has ALWAYS been even when we would face Cleveland…stop the rest of the team and you can win!

by Marko Schmidt on Jul 12, 2010 6:39 PM CDT up reply actions

Bogut/Irsan...

can guard Bosh, LRMM takes James and now you have Delfino or Salmons on Wade. Then when they switch to D, they’ll put Wade on Jennings, LBJ on Salmons and probably double team Bogut forcing LRMM and Delfino to create…it’ll be a tough team to play against for sure…but Skiles is a great defensive mind so we shall see

"I want someone who will, you know, let me put it in or who [will] suck on it." – Donald Sterling

by Dow Jones on Jul 12, 2010 7:07 PM CDT up reply actions

Ersan can't guard Bosh, but Luc can....

Bogut can probably avg 25/12/5 against the Heat this year – unless they somehow acquire a decent C

by victor s on Jul 12, 2010 7:13 PM CDT up reply actions

And then the second unit comes in and...

Maggette rams it down the throat of whatever D-League Back up center dares to guard the rim around him.

Just excited to watch this
