Bucks/Mavs: Milwaukee kicks off Vegas schedule

Time: 7 pm CT

TV: NBA Broadband/NBA TV

Normally I'd post projected lineups, but I won't even bother guessing for the first game. Presumably Larry Sanders and Tiny Gallon will start up front, though we might also see Darnell Jackson in for Gallon at the outset.  The Mavs have a major advantage merely from the fact that they've already played two games over the weekend (albeit both losses), and I'm not sure the Bucks have the guards to take full advantage of the talented big men on the roster...we'll see. The Mavs backcourt is led by Roddy Beaubois and Dominique Jones

Discuss.

Mine's working pretty good...

But I haven’t really used it to watch a full game so…

Not really concerned about whether the Bucks win or lose any of these games...

I just want to see how Sanders and Gallon preform.

Of course

They would interrupt the Bucks game with David Stern’s announcement. Gosh dang it, what do you have to do to get some respect

What's he announcing?

That the Heat are charged with tampering and LBJ and Bosh will have to go back to their original teams? :D

I know it's only SL, but Cousins & Whiteside look gooood!!

Maybe I was a bit hasty to dismiss HW during the draft ; )

Let's just hope Sanders is better

Although, I’m more upset that they passed on Lance Stephenson in the 2nd round, than Whiteside at this moment.

To use a baseball analogy.....

Why do people think Sanders is a PF and not a C???

Do people think he can’t be a C because he’s skinny???

There has been plenty of skinny Centers who have been successful – especially if you’re a hustling rebounder & shot-blocker

We’re seeing the rough edges on offense, but he moves exceptionally well. Once he calms down and learns to better read plays he should be a good P&R defender.

I’m not expecting him to be an all-star, but if he can be a solid player off the bench and maybe be an eventual starter in a few yrs, Milw has done well.

Keep the analysis coming

I only watched the first 10 minutes …(my 10-year old prefers the Home Run derby). What I did see, I liked. Very active. Gets up the court fast. Can you see him running the break with Jennings? Offense is raw; needs to go up stronger. Nice turnaround J.

I don't think anyone is expecting much offense from him - atleast this year

He was drafted to do what he’s doing – hustle, rebound, block & alter shots – and he looks good so far!

A good PG will still get him a handful of dunks per game, just based on his hustle & ability to run the floor

He's 25

recovering from an injury worse than Michael Redd, it just takes time to get confident and comfortable in the game. He never matured as a player so essentially, he’s a rookie. The Bucks need a guy who you can count on to back up Jennings, not a guy with a ?. I wouldn’t want to see them just sign Livingston without picking up a Anthony Carter too

He’s playing PG like a C who doesn’t want the ball at all. First thought is not create, its pass

by FearTheDeer on Jul 12, 2010 9:30 PM CDT reply actions

Overall, I'm happy w/ what I saw from Sanders.... Tiny didn't get enough PT to fairly judge.

Sanders is young and raw, but has some serious tools to work with.

Only time will tell, but if he can be atleast a decent bench player that hustles, rebounds & blocks shots – Milw will have made a good pick – and that’s really all you can hope for in the unpredictable NBA draft w/ the 15th pick.

by victor s on Jul 12, 2010 9:41 PM CDT reply actions

Well stated Victor

And it makes the Drew Gooden signing that much more pertinent. Skiles will be able to work in Sanders as he sees fit. He would be a nice compliment to the second unit of scorers, as he can concentrate on defense, and get some garbage points.

by tommyr on Jul 12, 2010 9:53 PM CDT up reply actions

Who knows how the roster will shake out, but the more I think about it,,,,,

If we keep the bigs that we expect to – Luc looks to become a D specialist off the bench – which is a luxury for the team….. but a bummer for him, because his PT will be decreased this year.

I just don’t see him in the rotation at PF…. Gooden will get most of the min there, and Ersan needs to get 15-20mpg, IMO – w/ Sanders getting some min at the 4 & 5.

I still think JH trades Luc or Ersan

by victor s on Jul 12, 2010 10:20 PM CDT up reply actions

and moves Luc to the 3 with Maggette and CDR

At the end of the day.... we have to look 3-5yrs down the road for Sanders

Not only do bigs take longer to develop, Sanders came to the game later than most…. so he is on a steep learning curve.

He very well could become a 12/10/3 player in a few yrs, but there’s going to be some growing pains along the way…. but if the team is patient and brings him along slowly, he looks to be a good one : )

by victor s on Jul 12, 2010 10:36 PM CDT reply actions

Thats a long wait

If he can’t contribute by next season, he’s tradable.

by FearTheDeer on Jul 13, 2010 1:06 AM CDT up reply actions

its all up in the air really who can say.....

maybe Sanders find his rhythm and niche early and finds a role on the bucks and he develops quickly or maybe he cant find any minutes on a play off bound team and he come along at a slower pace………..

its all all guesswork for everyone at the moment…..only been 1 summer league game….Im ready to give the kid a chance and see how it all plays out…….Im pretty confident he can make an impact with his ability to get up and down the floor, and be help out shot blocker

"That," says LeBron, "is for everyone that watches me play. They witness something special. You're all a witness."

by ILIKEBJ'S on Jul 13, 2010 4:07 AM CDT up reply actions

Really?... tradeable??.... was Bogut "tradeable" because it took him a few years to blossom???

Sanders is 21 and didn’t play organized hoops until H.S. – it’s not like he’s Tim Duncan coming out of Wake Forest, who was pretty much a finished product.

Most bigs take a while to develop…..

I’m not saying he’s gonna suck for 3-5yrs, but rather it’ll take a few years for him to blossom, because of the steep learning curve he is on.

by victor s on Jul 13, 2010 11:03 AM CDT up reply actions

Amen Victor

Discussing whether Larry Sanders is tradeable at this juncture, is oh so premature. There’s a reason they got Gooden; so they do not have to rush Sanders.
