Melo likely out of Denver, we should get him!!
http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=aw-anthonynuggets082610
So.. Melo wants out of Denver per World Wide West, the biggest clown a** in the league IMO.. Kind of sad for the Nuggets in a way, but I could see it coming.. Anyways, the Nuggets have said they would like to rebuild with draft picks.. Assuming that, they may want to take some expiring contracts as well.. *cough* Michael Redd *cough*. So I came up with this trade:
Michael Redd, Delfino/Illyasova, 1st Round Pick(s) to Denver ---> Carmello Anthony, Kenyon Martin (bad contract, see article). I think doing this makes sense for both sides, giving Milwaukee a big time star, and Denver a young piece or two to help rebuild, in addition to an expiring contract (Redd) giving the Nuggets cap flexibility. What does everybody think? Crazy, maybe.. But smart??

I loath Creative Artists agency
It’s not a coincidence that LeBron, Bosh, Wade, Melo, Paul and Parker (all the hypde free agents that are talked about leaving their team) are all represented by them. (And so is CDR— on the small chance he becomes a star, which I think he could, we could have issues)
Sadly, we can’t get Melo. He and his agent won’t want to come here, which is total BS because I think we could put together one of the best packages in the league for him, but it’s true. If he was here, he could put us over the top. I consider him a much better Corey Maggette…
"Now, Maggette's one of those where when he catches, it's probably going to go up--Not to a teammate." --Jon McGlocklin, 11/14/09
Why couldn't he come here? Atleast this yr??
Isn’t he still under contract w/ Denver for one more year?
If so, can’t they deal him wherever they want? I’m aware he’d never re-sign w/ the Bucks, but if he’s Denvers property for one more yr, I think they can trade him wherever they want.
I’d still trade Redd/Ersan/Delfino and a future first-rounder for one yr of Melo – and I would think that’d be one of the better offers they’d get. No?
FWIW - realgm's trade checker would only allow Redd/Ersan for Melo
And I think the Rockets may be able to offer Denver a sweeter deal than we can.
A team that thinks they can re-sign Melo should certainly be willing to offer a better package than a team like the Bucks. In that sense the Bucks getting Melo would mean they almost certainly overpaid.
That said, if you could get Melo for just Redd, Ilyasova and a 1st….well, I could completely understand going for it. The Brewers did it with Sabathia (though they held a small hope of re-signing him), though the odds of riding an ace pitcher to a World Series is much better than riding Melo to a title IMO. Especially if you only get one chance with him.

Mostly just curiosity but...
Other than Rasheed Walace, when has a one year rental or a mid season trade resulted in anything but a disaster?
My own myopic team view has me recalling the Gary Payton trade, which was a well-rounded debacle of the highest order. Milwaukee just isn’t the team to do this, it would destroy chemistry (we’d still have Maggette!). Worse still, the pending free agent sideshow that Bucks would become could give the Young Buck a an idea to skip town as soon as possible as well. No, I like our chances as stands just fine.

Pau Gasol worked out pretty well for the Lakers

Pau had three years and $49 million left on his deal when he was traded
Thus, nowhere close to a rental.

My Take
1) Redd’s Expiring ~ Carmelo’s Expiring
2) Ersan’s Playing 2 years < Carmelo’s Playing 1 year
3) Late 1st round pick = D Leaguer most likely on the Bucks roster.
4) Gallon’s Rights = Freebie it appears.
If the Bucks think it gets them further into the playoffs, say EC Finals or NBA Finals, I think their is a good chance that Carmelo doesn’t exercise his ETO. Not that he signs an extension with Milwaukee, but he doesn’t terminate his contract with a team thats young, talented, and winning.
Remember, Denver is only in this situation because they lack young talent and are no longer contenders in the West. The Bucks would be able to remedy both of those desires, just not the big city bright lights part.

The Clippers...
can offer Kaman, AFA (7th overall SF) and a future #1 pick including the soon to be unprotected Minnesota #1 rounder. Plus the market is perfect for him. His wife is an actress so she’d be good with LA and Melo is already producing movies (his documentary Tyson was really quite good).
I think that package is probably the best that Denver could hope for and I think Melo would sign an extension for the reasons cited above. This should happen.
Milwaukee doesn’t want/need Melo anyway. They have their stars (Bogues and Jennings) and a great supporting cast of defenders, scorers and hustle guys. If you acquire Melo, you better be offloading Maggette because those two will mesh like oil and water.

Dead On
Totally agree. Clippers have all the pieces in place to ship out in a trade for Melo AND keep a core of players around him. Nuggets want young talent and draft picks.
With Bogut’s breakout last year, I think Milwaukee can finally realize his potential. Only reason to acquire Melo is the lack of a go-to guy, and Milwaukee isn’t built around go-to guys right now. For better or worse, this offseason pretty much locked the Bucks in for the near future.

Why not?
Why aren’t Bogut and Salmons go to guys in your mind??

Not go-to like Carmelo
Bogut, Salmons, and (hopefully this year) Jennings are all legitimate offensive options, but they don’t dominate team possessions like Carmelo did. Jennings had the Bucks’ highest USG last year at 26.1%, nobody else with significant playing time had higher than 24%. Melo (33% USG last year) would disrupt such a team-oriented system.

Also, when has a star player's wife ever factored into the free agent discussion?
Not that a relationship can’t influence an individual’s decision to move, but with all the talk of Lala Vasquez (seriously tell me that’s a name you knew before all this) the sports world is feeling entirely too much like TMZ.

haha
there have been a few instances of the missus wearing the ‘pants’ in certain dealings…..Doug Christie springs to mind, Jason Kidds old lady has a rep as bit of hard ass so to speak but its not exactly a franchise player type of move…………although this off season has pretty much blown that franchise player theory outta the water
"That," says LeBron, "is for everyone that watches me play. They witness something special. You're all a witness."
Hedo's wife preferred TO to Portland
Sorry, TO…

could be a selling point for Toronto if you look at it in another light I suppose
"That," says LeBron, "is for everyone that watches me play. They witness something special. You're all a witness."
I say leave it
Read the Denver blogs, some don’t care whether he goes or not. “Not a leader” and “doesn’t play D” seem to be the common complaints. Let’s roll the dice with what we’ve got.
I'm taking my talents to.......The Golden Arches!
yes its interesting..........
Denver had some pretty good talent on those teams even if their depth was questionable….but they only ever really put it together once in ’Melo’s time there when they challenged the Lakers in the conference finals……….apart from that they never made it out of the first round
"That," says LeBron, "is for everyone that watches me play. They witness something special. You're all a witness."
But
Redd/Ilyasova/2011 1st rounder
Is essentially no loss and all gains for the Bucks. However, it doesn’t look that way to Denver. Redd is still tradable for more pieces at the deadline, their’s room on the Nuggets roster for another PF (whereas their isn’t room for him on the Bucks), and their also is no room for a rookie next year in Milwaukee whereas Denver lacks youth.
Complaints or not, you have to take a something for nothing trade if you are Milwaukee.

Not to discredit Ersan
But in two years will Ersan sign an extension with a team that has Sanders for 2 more years, Gooden for 3 more years, Brockman for another year, and LRMAM possibly extended? I think on a smaller scale next year could easily be the same story as Carmelo for the Bucks, either trade him or lose him to FA.

What would a clever translation for the NBA version of an MLB team's "Homerun Swing"?
The Bucks trading for Melo would be just that. I will deem it the “O’Brien Offensive” until we come up with something better.
On paper, the Bucks current roster looks incredibly solid. Incredibly solid will probably be enough to get us out of the first round, but the current league of giants, we probably wouldn’t get much further as constructed.
Personally, I wouldn’t be opposed to going for broke if they could pull the trigger prior to the season starting. As Frank/JS/every other Bucks journalist has mentioned, this season will come down to chemistry. Adding Melo in February would damage any chemistry we have built by then.
Melo/Overpriced Birdman for Redd/Delfino/CDR works. We would probably have to throw in Larry Sanders instead of CDR, but a year of Melo instead of a year of Redd, I’d take it in a heartbeat.
I know there's a lot of questions/concerns w/ a guy like Carmelo....
But as a one yr rental, I’d roll the dice….
But I would only give up Redd, Ersan OR Delfino [not both] and a future first round pick… maybe even a second rounder, if need be.
I’ve never been a huge fan, and I think that Melo is a glorified Glenn Robinson, but if you can get a player of his caliber for pennies on the dollar, do it.
no doubt 'Melo has a kick ass offensive repotoire and he is a scoring machine...
still he pretty much works on the theory that his offense is his defense…….it would be an interesting scenario though
"That," says LeBron, "is for everyone that watches me play. They witness something special. You're all a witness."
What do we think about
Adding NeNe to the trade with Carmelo which gives us a very overpaid back-up C, but a very solid back-up C, which would probably help Denver unload enough salary to instantly say yes.
Obviously the trade would become (for salary matching purposes) something along the lines of:
Carmelo/Nene (~$28 mil) traded for Redd/Ersan/Delfino/Gallon/2010 1st Rounder/Elson TPE (~$24-$26 mil).
I dont think you could ever say no to adding a talent like 'Melo
even if its a short term thing
"That," says LeBron, "is for everyone that watches me play. They witness something special. You're all a witness."
Why would they dump Nene?
He’s got two years/$23 million left on his deal, so he’s hardly an albatross and has played very well the past two years. If you’re forced to deal Melo why give away a quality 27-year old center too?
FTD makes several great points....
Even if it’s not for Melo this yr – I think Ersan is a trade bait. I like him a lot, but Sanders/Gooden/Brockman are the future at PF – and Luc is also gonna get a nice raise when he becomes a FA. [I highly doubt the Bucks let him go]
And adding Melo would get the Bucks to atleast the EC Finals, if not the NBA Finals, IMO.
