Sure could use a shooter...Is Redd the guy?

Any word on what shape Michael Redd is in? Will he be ready to contribute soon? It is so obvious that the lack of anyone that can put the ball in the basket from beyond 3 feet is hampering the offensive game of Bogut, Maggette and Salmons. Getting to the hoop is impossible when the defenses are clogging the middle with little to no fear of a kick out for an open jumper.

Any reason to hope that Michael Redd will solve that problem? If so, any time line on his return?

They've been targeting February, but...

Until he shows up at the Cousins Center to start practicing I’m going to assume we won’t see him at all. Speedy mentioned in one of the other threads that there was a Hammond interview where he said he didn’t expect him back, but I haven’t seen anything else quite so direct. The party line since last summer had been to target a February return, but there’s been no talk of him getting close.

I can understand the sentiment that maybe Redd could help, but I just think back to how ineffective he was last year before tearing up his knee again. He had a few really good games where it looked like vintage Redd, but overall he was arguably our most ineffective offensive player—probably because he kept trying to shoot his way into rhythm but just never did.

Shooting into rhythm

Why do I envision ‘10-’11 John Salmons but worse?

I never use a big word when a diminutive word would suffice.

always helps when the team sucks and your injured, does wonders for your rep

That," says LeBron, "is for everyone that watches me play. They witness something special. You're all a witness.

True frank,

but he isn’t going to be the same player when he gets back. I think Redd understands that he wont be the offensive facilitator. It would be great to see him accept a role as a spot up shooter. i think it could happen. If he wants to get on the court this year, he will do just that.

I'm not convinced he'd be a good spot-up shooter either

Even before the injuries, Redd had become more of a scorer than shooter, so I’m not convinced that parking him in the corner suddenly gives us the thing we’ve been missing. His defense was mostly justifiable because he scored so much, but if we’re not even sure that he’ll make open jump shots I don’t see the point.

Depends

On the injury situation. But it’s tough to see him shooting better than Boykins.
