Free Agency Chaos 2011 NBA News Thread
Tomorrow is going to be chaos with news all over the place on the player movement front, so I thought rather than commenting on NBA news under Brew Hoop articles, we should start a general NBA post. Any thoughts on the weekends non Buck news can be discussed here. Some additional news on the Lakers CP3 mess after the jump.
Some tweets by Adrian Wojnarowski regarding Sterns nix of the CP3 trade:
The owners half-pushed this through, and Stern took it the rest of the way," a league source involved in nixed trade told Y! Sports.
"In the end, David didn’t like that the players were dictating where they wanted to go," source says.
League source on killed deal: "...(Stern) wasn't going to let Chris Paul dictate where he wanted to go."
Christopher Broussard is reporting that the Lakers killed the deal because Gasol refused to go to Houston.
This is a mess that might take the NBA a while to clean up. The NBA put themselves in this bind when they purchased the Hornets in the first place. Phil Jackson sniffed this debacle out last year when he first learned that Shinn was selling to the league.

Another Woj tweet:
To listen to the GM’s, coaches, players, agents reaching out to me tonight: I think the NBA has changed forever with Stern’s act tonight
Have the players approved the CBA yet? If not, could Stern’s act sabotage the season right as it is about to start?

Nevermind, the CBA was ratified earlier tonight, but I still think if Stern had squashed the deal before the CBA was ratified, it would have spelled trouble for the league.

I eagerly await the signing of the most anticipated free agent of the summer...Ahem, Autumn...
Dan Gadzuric.
Maybe a contender will want to shell out a coupla mill to have a veteran C as back up?...nah...

It's possible
I don’t think it could hurt too much.

Yeah, Gadz is pretty harmless...it was always his contract that wasn't!

Wilcox vet min with the Celtics
Well there goes that wish for me
"He always plays like he's a pit bull that hasn't been fed in about a year and that you've got pork chops in your pockets and that's the basketball." Of course, he's Canadian
Anybody else a wee bit ticked that the Pistons are serving up Richard Hamilton to the Bulls?
I know he is past his prime, but it is frustrating to see the Bulls get a solid second or third scoring option for under market value. I just hope the Bulls have to pay Hamilton more than the minimum.
I was just going to post on that
Competitive balance be damned……If they amnestied him, likely the Bulls wouldn’t have got him..maybe Stern should veto this?
"He always plays like he's a pit bull that hasn't been fed in about a year and that you've got pork chops in your pockets and that's the basketball." Of course, he's Canadian
Welp, another backup center is off the market...
‘sources’ telling NY Post that Turiaf is being traded from the Knicks to the Wizards.
And Foster is resigning with the Pacers
I wasn’t sure if you were talking about Christian welp at first, but he’s been off the market for quite some time.
"He always plays like he's a pit bull that hasn't been fed in about a year and that you've got pork chops in your pockets and that's the basketball." Of course, he's Canadian
And to continue the theme of the rich getting richer...
Alex Kennedy reports the Celtics are close to a deal with David West. Details are murky as to whether it will be sign and trade or mini exception.
Wilcox, Garnett, West, Bass?

Details are emerging...
As @Daldridgetnt reports, David West close w/ Celtics. Y! Sources say sides working on a sign-and-trade for a 3-year, $27-29M deal.

more from Woj at Yahoo:
Celtics likely send Jermaine O’Neal and another player to New Orleans in sign-and-trade, sources said. Hornets would move players elsewhere.
Could O’Neal be wrapped into the CP3 to LA deal so that more salary goes to the Lakers? Would that make the deal acceptable to Stern?
by Brick's house on Dec 9, 2011 10:06 PM CST up reply actions
Why else would they want O'Neal
I know they need some salary to get to minimum but that would be ridiculous, they would be better off letting him walk

They need a centre tho

Updating, Celtics sign and trade for David West falls through...
and the Pacers rush in to pick up West on a 2 year/ $20 million deal. Pacers also looking to deal McRoberts to Memphis for O.J. Mayo in a sign and trade. The teams attempted that deal at the trading deadline last year but failed to file the deal on time.
Pacers roster taking shape as the team looks to move into the upper echelon of the East this year.
Timberwolves sign J.J. Barea to 4 yr./$19 mo
by Brick's house on Dec 12, 2011 8:42 AM CST via mobile reply actions
That is 4 yr./$19 mil.
Should make Bucks feel better about getting LRMAM for same price. At least Barea will be a big hit with the Puerto Rican community in Minnesota, oh wait, nevermind.

Outside free agency, here is a scary bit of news:
Wade now weighs only 4 lbs less than the new and improved Gooden, and has only 3.5% body fat. According to ESPN article here:
http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/miamiheat/post/_/id/10513/how-wade-big-three-stayed-big-in-lockout
Oh, and of course James is huge too, 265.
Can't decide if I like the Paul trade from NO's POV
Or not. Kaman is a trade chip for sure, Bledsoe and Aminu I don’t have the knowledge on to comment, but the pick might be huge.
"He always plays like he's a pit bull that hasn't been fed in about a year and that you've got pork chops in your pockets and that's the basketball." Of course, he's Canadian
As a semi-hornets supporter
I would love the trade, but it fell through. I would have loved it because Aminu and Bledsoe only have 3 combined years of experience and both have ridiculously high cielings, while Kaman is a good center (rare in the NBA today) and the 1st rd pick was a nice add.
It really fell through when they tried to bring Eric Gordon into the deal. That would be awful for the Clips, since Gordon is a blossoming All-Star avging over 20 ppg and only 23 years old. To give up Gordon, Bledsoe, Aminu, Kaman, and a pick is a ridiculous asking price for one guy in return.
Montee Ball for Heisman.
Tajh Boyd and Dre' Ellington are the future.

I was referring to the trade w/o gordon
That’s why i was kind of unsure

Marc Gasol has announced on Twitter he is returning to the Grizzlies.
Talk about continuity, Memphis going to be tough this year. They are deep and have a nice mix of veterans and young players. That roster is really built for the compacted season coming up. Zach Randolph is supposedly in great shape, I think they might even be in the running for home court in the 1st round of the playoffs.
Kwame Brown signed a 1 year/$7 mill. deal with the Warriors.
Which means there is another center off the market. BTW, for someone who has been universally considered a bust, Brown is getting quite a big raise over his last contract. The Bobcats only paid him 1.2 million last season. Was he that good last year?
No
Overpay for one year is ok though I guess.

Okay, good one Canada. You got us good.
Now where’s the REAL talent pool. I’m guessing they are some damning combination of: (a) too old, (b) too bad) and © too expensive.
