NBA Playoffs Thread
Why not? No Bucks this time around but the Playoffs are still there for you. As of this time It's Kurt Thomas....Err, Bulls vs. Pacers on ESPN right now. Pacers surprisingly hanging tough. No Shaq for the Celtics in game one, noody knows when he'll be back. Manu questionable for Spurs in game one as well.
WEST
Spurs vs Grizzlies
Mavs vs Blazers
EAST
Bulls vs. Pacers
Celtics vs. Knicks
Heat vs. Sixers
Looking for the 1st round to as usual be a lot more clear cut in the East. My prediction is that (Unfortunately) the Lakers will win it again over the Celtics. Bah. But we'll see.... Real playoffs don't start till the 2nd round anyway.

Ramon Sessions, of all people
When he scored 44 against Detroit. Michael Redd, Ray Allen, and Glenn Robinson all had 20 once.
I never use a big word when a diminutive word would suffice.

Well good
Now I know there’s little reason to watch the rest of the Bulls series. Even though I probably will inevitably.

Yeah, sure feels like Indy lost any chance of making it a real series today
I ended up watching the second half and you had to be impressed with the way Rose closed it out—kind of like what we saw him do to the Bucks a few weeks ago. Curious to see how Indy responds.

Um, I don't get it
If that game had been played by the Heat or Knicks, we’d be writing about how disappointing it was that the 1st seeded team had to stage a late comeback. This thing is a series, if we trust the NBA to be partial. What Game 1 means to me is that the Bulls are vulnerable, even if Derrick Rose is for some reason untouchable (I’m waiting for Jordan II).

Nothing to do with hoops but....
24 time Stanley Cup Champion Montreal Canadiens have won the first two games of their best of seven series with the Boston Bruins on the road. Could be a long summer in beantown if the Sox don’t improve and the Celts keep slipping.

Interesting Stat
from a conspiracy theorist
In the first 5 3/4 playoff games the home team has made 159-206 free throws, the visiting teams have made in the same span 81-122. Other than the Orlando/Atlanta game which was a differential of 1, the next smallest differential is 14, and the biggest differential was 24 Home cooking?
"You play anybody and if they shoot 70 per cent from three, they're going to be tough to beat." More wise words from Chris Bosh
That's pretty remarkable.
The only explanation I can think of at the moment is that the home teams have the better records and the bigger stars, and most of those tip tier talents are also the best isolation players in the league…these guys just can’t be guarded off the dribble in isolation, so they impose their will and draw fouls while creating shots for themselves and teammates.

To make it even more interesting though, in the two games the visiting teams have won, the FT margin has been 1 and 0. Don’t think there’s another sport where the refs can influence the game so much, not saying it’s happening, just saying it could.

So, Zach Randolph got paid handsomely for his efforts today...
4 yrs 71 million. Heisley reaching deep into his wallet(s).
The Artist Formerly known as Speedingtime/Speedy
My intial impressions on the deal:
(1) Seems like they paid too much. I can’t imagine there are any good trends on the durability or production of overweight PFs heading into their 30s…furthermore Randolph and his agent had no negotiating leverage heading into the new CBA with salary reductions a certainty. Heisley must have been in a really good mood about making playoffs, and perhaps he felt like all contracts signed before the new CBA (Gay, Conley, Randolph) would grandfather in and not affect the new cap numbers much.
(2) Will they have enough money to keep Marc Gasol now? Because if I had to choose between Z-Bo signed into his mid-30s at 4yrs/71mill or Marc Gasol signed through his late 20s for half that price, I would stick with Gasol and just let Arthur start at PF next year. Curious to say the least.

I agree
Assuming they don’t resign Battier, next year’s cap figure for them stands at around $54 million with Z-Bo and Gasol unsigned. How much do you think Gasol would go for? Around 10 million? We all know about Heisley’s penny pinching, so It will be interesting to see if he ponies up for him. The new CBA changes everything though.

Bidding against yourself 101
What are the odds Randolph would even be able to get $50 million once a new CBA kicks in? It’s all speculation at this point, but seems like drastically overpaying given a) there may be next to no teams with cap space to make him a big offer b) max salaries may be much lower c) he’s a 30-year-old with a sketchy history.
Kudos to the Grizz for what they’re doing on the court, but Heisley’s record for completely overpaying 2nd/3rd bananas is rather startling.

Weird. I’ll admit that I used to like the Heat a fair bit because of the Wade/Marquette connection, then the LBJ arrival soured it a fair bit. But as a Bucks fan in Boston I’ve always found myself disliking the C’s too.
Either way, I think the combo of KG + Delonte has swung me into the Heat’s corner for this series. And whoever comes out of this series will have me behind them when they play the Bulls…
I hope they both lose.

My Dad and pretty much whole family is from Wisconsin,
he grew up in Northern Wisconsin so he’s been fans of those teams all his life, so I rooted for those teams with him and the rest of my family. We go visit once every 2-4 years, but stil haven’t been to Lambeau or the Bradley Center. On top of my list.

I'm probably the only one in the world who's going to be bored out of my mind if the Lakers go to the finals.
Been there, done that.

Sooooo lazy.
Him and Joe Johnson together form the laziest tandem of players in the league.

I do not pity the Lakers or their fans at all
Although I know they don’t expect anyone to.

Pau Gasol
On the market now?

Maybe
In a way I doubt they’re going to give up already, but maybe they will go into panic mode.

He's 13 and 8 for the playoffs
On 42% shooting Not a totally fair comparison but Dirk is 28 and 9 on 49%. Not that the Lakers are shopping him but even if they were how many teams would want 3 years at 19 per. A lot of Laker fans might want him gone right about now.

eastern conference teams must be pretty happy right about now
That," says LeBron, "is for everyone that watches me play. They witness something special. You're all a witness.
Not sure if you want to play Dallas
Pretty solid team and now Peja getting back into form.

I'd be more concerned about the Grizz right about now...

yup Grizz looking mean
That," says LeBron, "is for everyone that watches me play. They witness something special. You're all a witness.
Good to see the lakers were sporting about losing though
Bynum and Odom especially

sarcasm implied, correct?
Bynum could and should be suspended going into next season.

Heaps of sarcasm and agreed
I would say 5 games at least, that was bush-league galore. Odom’s wasn’t so bad and could be construed as being accidental but Bynum’s a deliberate cheap-shot.

I know most of you Wisconsonites won't like this but....
Go Bulls Go.

I am with you...Don't care
I would rather see either of the teams from the west go on win it all. My friend is kind of annoying me with his Bulls craziness, so I somewhat enjoyed the Heat’s victory tonight. I just want a good series.

I'm rooting for whoever wins out of OKC and Dallas.
Was initially keen for the Thunder to get there, but Westbrook just seems to be annoying the heck out of me for some reason…can’t put my finger on what it is tho. And Dirk deserves at least one title, same with Kidd and Marion.

Mavs/Thunder Game II
Mavs have come out firing in the 1st Q. OKC look a bit of a rabble on D.

Yeah, Thunder really turned it around mid-way thru that 2nd quarter.
I want the Mavs to win tho. Westbrook has totally lost me as a fan. The guy still needs plenty of maturing.
