NBA Finals Thread + Poll
The NBA Finals are coming up, and for the first time since I can remember, the Milwaukee Bucks aren't in it. So right now it's pretty boring being a Bucks fan, with nothing to talk about except the Draft.
Anyways, Game 1 is tonight in South Beach. I happen to live just north of South Beach, so I would consider myself a supporter or "fan" of the Miami Heat. I just want to know the feelings on the matchup of the Heat vs the Mavericks from the points of view of neutral fans. So please vote in the poll of which team you think will stand above the other as the Champ and in how many games.

VS
So you can use this as a NBA Finals Thread. Talk about who you think will win, who you want to win, or how much you hate LeBron James.
Most of the community at Acme Packing Company (for the SB Champ Packers) seems to dislike LBJ and hopes to see him go down hard to the Big Awkward Euro (I just made up that nickname for Dirk Nowiztki, partly referring to how he shoots off-balance off one foot). By the way, I think we had that guy on our team at one point. We traded him for Tractor Traylor, who recently died at age 34. Rest In Peace, Tractor.
Please vote in the poll below, and if you are interested at all in my slightly biased opinion (remember I said I'm a Heat fan), I'm taking the Miami Heat in a 7-game series. Dirk is great, but the Heat have options to guard him with Haslem, Bosh (long and lengthy), and even he himself LeBron James. Wade will be back to form after a dissapointing Chicago series and Bibby will be hitting his 3's. Heat in 7.

Im not fussed really Id prefer Dallas because Nowitzki seems like a laid back guy, Bosh kinda annoys me alot
hopefully its a interesting drama filled series, as SBnation article stated the Heat seem a more interesting team when they lose ;)
That," says LeBron, "is for everyone that watches me play. They witness something special. You're all a witness.
Bosh is kinda odd,
his neck is 6 feet long, and he is really quiet and laid back sometimes then all of a sudden he makes a great play and goes nuts.
And I didn’t read that but it’s true, they are more interesting after a loss.

yeah he has been pretty good in the playoffs.....hard to fault the Heat coming through Boston & the Bulls
likewise The Mavs got through the Lakers should be a drama filled series regardless

PG Battle
I can’t wait for the grandpa point guards to battle it out in this series
Bibby might be the most useless starting point guard in the league at this point.
Kidd is still going strong.

If it was lakers Heat it would be tough for me to pick but the Mavs are the clear-cut choice for me.

A defensive battle so far,
low scoring, 27-26 Heat midway through the 2nd.

The Heat are sort of pulling away,
but just can’t score enough to put it away.
75-69, 4:35 to play

I picked Miami in 7, but It's probably going to be less then that unless Dallas makes major adjustments.
Miami’s defense is just too good.

I was thoroughly unimpressed with Haslem's defense on Dirk, so there is still hope the series will be good as long as everyone else on the Mavs decide to show up at some point...
Haslem has seriously been bad on Dirk so far, I can’t imagine he grades out well on tape when the staff reviews the game, but they got away with the double teams because nobody on the Mavs could hit those open swing 3s so far.
I was thinking Heat in 5 going into this game, but it’s actually been revised to Heat in 6 now.

4th best defensive efficiency in the regular season, 3rd best in the playoffs.
So not quite, but they’re up there. Their athleticism makes it tough for anybody to score against them.

Spoke way to damn soon,
especially considering the Mavs already did it once, against OKC. I just figured the Heat were better at closing. LeBron and Wade curled up and Dirk stood tall. Hell, the Heat got more from Chalmers down the stretch than Bron or Wade.

J.J. Barea chips in 17 points with 4 of 5 shooting from beyond the arc in Game 5.
LeBron James, the so-called best player in the NBA, has ELEVEN 4th Quarter points through 5 NBA Finals games.

And he wonders why people don't like him?
At the end of the day, all the people that were rooting for me to fail … at the end of the day, tomorrow they have to wake up and have the same life that [they had] before they woke up today. They got the same personal problems they had today. And I’m going to continue to live the way I want to live and continue to do the things I want to do.

kinda sad really isnt it? amazing how timid James was in the 4th quarter of the last few games
actually I dislike Bosh a lot less now, played ok and he actually took the loss and spoke pretty well after it
That," says LeBron, "is for everyone that watches me play. They witness something special. You're all a witness.
I actually gained respect for Bosh through the whole season and Finals,
He took a sigfinicant paycut, and to play with 2 players who would overshadow him, so he would rarely be credited when the team wins. He was averaging 24 ppg in Toronto… he knew that number would instantly go under 20 and it did. And in the Finals while LeBron was lackadaisical and unassertive, Bosh played his heart out and actually played pretty well. And I discovered that he has far more class than most people would guess.

Bosh was fine during his time in TO good with the fans and media
I just like razzing him for the comments he makes.

Bosh actually signed for close to max money in a sign and trade deal.
He makes more than Wade and the same as LeBron (6yr/ 110 mill). I just don’t think Bosh is a big time player watching him not being able to hit that wide open 15 foot jumper with much consistency, not having a real post game to speak of, and not getting any iso plays any more. He’s hasn’t impressed me in his new role with the Heat.

The true max deal would have been 6yr/125mill, so he left 15 mill total on the table (which is only 2.5 mill per year) and that doesn't include the value of unique marketing opportunities he got as a Heat member.
A noble spirit embiggens the smallest man.

A bit off topic but
I think if the NBA goes to a hard cap, they really should ditch max contract values altogether. Allow teams to pay players as they are worth (as long as they don’t go over the cap). Otherwise, you have situations where a player like Carmelo Anthony gets paid the same amount of money as LeBron because of how much stars are worth to a team in general. I imagine it would help level the playing field quite a bit.

I suppose as long as they maintain the cap holds for roster spots and draft picks, this would be an interesting way to see how a market would price some of these guys.

Brings back memories of KG's holdout with the Wolves
I remember him being “insulted” that Minny only offered him 91m over 7 years. Mike Piazza had done the same in baseball and it soured me on sports a bit.
"He always plays like he's a pit bull that hasn't been fed in about a year and that you've got pork chops in your pockets and that's the basketball." Of course, he's Canadian
before this I actually felt a bit sorry for James
he has all these loser and sycophant yes men hangars on surrounding him perpetually, but as we say the guy is just a wanka
That," says LeBron, "is for everyone that watches me play. They witness something special. You're all a witness.
Yes on the wanker
I don’t have the same accent that you do, as I mentioned before Canadians are the only people in the world without accents.
"He always plays like he's a pit bull that hasn't been fed in about a year and that you've got pork chops in your pockets and that's the basketball." Of course, he's Canadian
ha I expect James will eventually get a ring or two, but its kinda hard to see him being the man on the team anytime soon
I suppose thats why needs to surround himself with all these people telling he is great…….cue aussie accent……what a wanka
That," says LeBron, "is for everyone that watches me play. They witness something special. You're all a witness.
Did I not hear correctly or did
SVG say after the game that Wade and leBron have to get together and decide which one of them should go to Orlando in a trade for Dwight so that miami can win a championship. If so is that one of the dumbest statements ever? And would Orlando trade Howard to Miami if they could help it?
"He always plays like he's a pit bull that hasn't been fed in about a year and that you've got pork chops in your pockets and that's the basketball." Of course, he's Canadian
That would be right up there in stupid trade deals
with Portland sending Greg Oden’s bad knees and expiring contracts to Utah for Devin Harris. The Jazz would get absolutely screwed in that deal…
