Still crying over Marshon Brooks and its only going to get worse...
Watching the cratchety Stephen Jackson gingerly move about forcing bricks and throwing balls away and getting blown by on defense, only made me pine more for a bright young athletic SG like one Marshon Brooks. In case nobody has been following his progress lets compare the mighty captain Jack to the rookie Hammy passed on
Brooks 14.1 pts 3.4 reb .7 ast .9 stls .3 blks .458 FG% .773 FT% in only 23.3 minutes per game!
Jackson 12.5 pts 3.7 reb 3.3 ast 1.3 stl .3 blks .333 FG% .842 FT% in 30.2 minutes per game.
not too mention Jackson is throwing in around 5 TO's per game and makes 10 times more money and Toby Harris can't even make it through training camp. I could go on and on and on and on. I guess Hammy figured this roster needed another tweener guy in the 6'8" range that is too small to be a PF and not athletic enough to be a SF because the roster just doesn't ahve enough of those guys.
Anybody seen Bogut lately, he has officially been passed by on the center ranking list by Spencer Hawes, I know he jacked up his arm but how has he gotten so slow and glued to the floor compared to two years ago??? Anyone remember all the crazy dunks and blocked shots, he moves like a 40 year old version of that guy nowadays. And don't even start me on what is going through Skiles shiny little head, is it going to take him 40 games to figure out what we all know already, Jon Leuer is better than Ersan Ilysova in every freakin way possible on the court. Which brings me full circle to Mr. Marshon Brooks because even if Bucks had drafted him, he would be buried on the bench or already sent to the D league so I guess it doesn't even matter:) Jennings is really balling though huh at least we got that going!!!

Welcome Back and you may be right but....
Brooks is in an ideal situation for him as NJ is probably one of the worst teams in the league(more so w/o Lopez) and is probably thinner at wing than we are. Brooks will get lots of opportunity there that as you say he wouldn’t have got here. To compare him with Harris now is unreasonable though, even to Jackson(although I fell your pain with Jax) is a bit premature as well. To really analyze that draft we would have to wait 2 or 3 years at least IMO.
"He always plays like he's a pit bull that hasn't been fed in about a year and that you've got pork chops in your pockets and that's the basketball." Of course, he's Canadian
Agree with everything you stated
3 years from now, Harris could very well be the better player. I expected this from Brooks, because he was one of the more NBA ready guys because he was at college all 4 season, but I do wonder how high his cieling is (It’s somewhat high, but it’s not like Dwyane Wade or anything, and he may not reach his cieling).
(This part is to the author): I see why your dissapointed with Jackson, we all are because he’s shooting terrible, turning it over, and he’s hurting the flow of the offense. But it’s not like we can get rid of him, and by getting him we let go of Magggette and Salmons’ contracts, which helped our future. So I don’t see how comparing Brooks to Jackson makes sense, when one guy is a rookie who we don’t have and the other guy is a vet who we can’t get rid of.
Russell Wilson and Montee Ball: The Greatest QB/RB tandem in College Football history.
Tajh Boyd and Dre' Ellington are the future. Don't count out Sammy Watkins.

point taken
it was just an abstract comparison to show what the mighty capt jack was producing vs a late 1st round rookie in his first 7 games, thats all.
The trouble is, this team is full of "coulds"
And is deathly afraid of drafting scorers.
I can promise you us over at ND are very happy to have Marshon
A future star in the league

I'd like to actually see Harris play before I make any judgement about what we should of or shouldn't have done in the draft
We’re all frustrated with Jackson, but I don’t think it’s fair to compare a veteran on a team that’s expected to win now with a rookie on a team that’s in complete rebuild mode. Two completely different roles to fill.
Life isn't fair
Roles or not, both guys are SG’s right??? Both guys are playing in the NBA, one guy is young, spry and athletic and shooting 45%, the other guy moves like a slug and is making 33% and is also a human bakery in the TO department. Players are players, numbers never lie man. I just wanted to let every know that I was right on the money about Brooks being a legit player, a lot of people on here poo-poo’d his game, he would have been the Bucks SG for the next decade in my opinion, instead we got Toby, whoohoooo another tweener, I’ll make a judgement Brooks will be a much better player than Harris.
Career=6 games?
Give it time before you declare yourself a genius
I just wanted to let every know that I was right on the money about Brooks being a legit player
Again you might be right but it is way to early to tell, ever hear of Pervis Ellison?

Yes but you might get
Tendinitis from patting yourself on the back and then if the Bucks trainers get to look at you…..it could turn into leprosy or something

You looking forward to the big matchup tonight
at PF
Drew Gooden
vs
Blake Griffin
any predictions???
I think it's safe to say that Jax is on the downside of his career...
But it’s not as if JH took him over Brooks – there was the Salmons/Maggette factor, etc…
Brooks looks to be a good, young player – but let’s wait 2 or 3 yrs before we judge him and/or T Harris.
Should always wait 3 years before you judge a player :)

Here's a bit of a blurb on Brooks
Marshon Brooks, SG, New Jersey Nets
We knew Brooks would shoot too much, stop the ball and play selfishly at times, and the total lack of wing scoring in New Jersey has only made the light appear even greener. Brooks is one of just 12 players averaging more than 18 shot attempts per 36 minutes so far, and nearly 30 percent of the possessions he has finished with shots, turnovers or drawn fouls have come via isolation plays — a number nearly on par with Kobe Bryant last season, per Synergy Sports.
But you can’t really argue with the results so far. Brooks is shooting 46 percent (50 percent on those isolation plays), he has drawn an acceptable number of foul shots, and he has turned the ball over just six times in seven games. On the one hand, that’s easy to do when you never pass, and Brooks’ assist numbers look a lot like Harrington’s. On the other hand, going one-on-one — and even facing occasional double-teams — is a recipe for gaffes, and Brooks has avoided them so far.
Brooks won’t shoot well all the time, and he’s going to have games that will drive you crazy. There will be growing pains, but the early signs are good. Brooks appears to be a guy who can score at this level.
"He always plays like he's a pit bull that hasn't been fed in about a year and that you've got pork chops in your pockets and that's the basketball." Of course, he's Canadian
I wouldn't agree with that assessment or blurb
I’ve seen just about every minute Brooks has played and the only negative I saw was once in awhile he would take a really quick long jumpshot, but he has shown ability to hurt other teams and certainly draw defenders, one game they were actually doubling him in the second half,(that also says what kind of talent NJ puts on the floor with him but nonetheless, I was sold pre draft, and am even more sold after 7 games. Kid is ultra talented and NBA ready, Where’s Toby? kind of like Wheres Waldo? LOL
One slight addition to this nice little blurb
Brooks has done most of this in NBA garbage time (Nets lose by an average of double digits on the season), and garbage time in the NBA isn’t worth thinking about too much.

thats not even close to true, I've watched every Nets game, come on, not acurate, not his fault the team is always behind
he had 17 2 games ago not even half way into the 3rd quarter then he rolled his ankle, is that garbage time?
depends on the margin at the time

down 15+ feels garbagy to me.
Unless you are the Bucks and up 15, but that’s the exception, not the rule.

I saw 2 halftime interviews from nets assistant coaches
2 separate games, where he openly stated “Marshon is keeping us in it” thats not garbage time, come up with a better argument man.
Well then he's great.

not yet but he might be in few years, I've been hyping him up all day
he will probably go 3 for 14 tonight vs Heat.
We do realize he will be 23 in less than three weeks, right?
Making him older than Brandon Jennings and Russell Westrbook, and nearly as old as Ilyasova and Mike Conley Jr.

Honestly, Jersey makes anyone look good...
…if you give them PT.
Look at CDR. I know I, for one, was happy when he arrived….very similar to Brooks.
M Brooks = CDR

I'm just saying he's not going to become a star or anything.
It’s part of the reason both guys fell in the draft.

I like taking the risk on him at 19 a lot better than a high volume 23 year old who hasn't been on winning teams.

Tobias also gives a basis for good Arrested Development references
But the fact that he will be as old as Brooks now when his full rookie deal w/ team option is up is enough for me.

But you are free to enjoy Brooks to your heart's content.
Not sure I would advise watching Nets games in whole or even part on his account, but as long as it’s free.

Good one, it is free at least for another day
they had a lineup out on the floor the other day of:
Sundiata Gaines
Johan Petro
Damian James
Anthony Morrow
Deshawn Stevenson
Woof. That's almost criminal.
That whole operation out there (D-Will included) has been really disappointing to me.

The frustrating part ....
Is that we seem to rationalize all our picks, even after they have been pathologically wrong for so many years. I agree that it is way too early to judge. I just hope that, when Harris is ready to play more, he gets some PT.
Gotta take advantage of NBA pass free preview, think its over after Sunday
I’m NBA’d out anyways after the last week. 2 observations from watching nonstop NBA the past 2 weeks. NBA officiating is really, really, reallly beyond awful and there are a lot of really bad teams out there across the league
It’s really sad story but you should realize that your life continues!
