Meet the newest member of the Bucks- Monta Ellis

As a die-hard GSW fan since the 2007-2008 season, let me start off by saying that when it was announced a few days ago that Monta Ellis was traded to Milwaukee, two profound things happened to me:

The first, and most immediate, consequence was that I was devastated. Monta Ellis, my favorite player on the team- favorite player in the league, favorite athlete in sports- had been shipped off to another team on a drop-of-a-dime's notice. The one guy on the Warriors whose mesmerizing play I had continuously marveled at over the course of the last 4 1/2 years was pronounced traded, and I was, positively, despondent; absolutely devastated. I thought to myself, 'what am I gonna do now, after all these years as a devoted Warrior fan?' You see, not only had I been a devout Warrior fan the last few years, I had been a New York-based one. My passion for the organization, and its outstanding SB Nation blog here, Golden State of Mind, was so special, so proud, that living in New York all this time I've happily withstood a constant stream of grilling inquisition from Knicks fans about my unusual choice of fanhood. Now, suddenly, my main source of Warrior appreciation was gone in one fell swoop. I had supported the Warriors through a lot of frustration and disappointment, but you could say I was downright disillusioned by the prospect of the new-look Golden State Warriors.

The second, more delayed effect was that I became excited by the idea of new Milwaukee Bucks basketball. I realized that my sense of hoops allegiance had shifted over from the Dubs to the new-look Bucks; I was now a Bucks fan. And it's no doubt for the very same reason that I would always cite when people here in NY would ask me why I was, of all teams, a Warriors fan the last few years. "It's because they have Monta Ellis". He's a player that to me exudes such a remarkable storm of qualities of passion, talent, grace, skill, athleticism, and determination that it's unthinkable not to be bewitched by him.

I've said this many times on GSoM and I'll say it for the first time here at Brew Hoop now: I adore Monta Ellis. And I am certain that everyone here will soon fall in love with him too.

Bucks basketball just got a lot more exciting. And I'm elated to be here for the go-round.
