Milwaukee Bucks forward Luc Mbah a Moute has received praise from top NBA scorers for his defensive skill, and he carries a strong reputation as a wing defender, but I'm not someone who usually treats loose anecdotal evidence as authoritative pronouncements of basketball truth. Evaluating defensive contributions in the NBA is a very difficult task, but I'm here to put forth my best efforts. This project is about trying to discover LRMAM's impact on the best wing scorers in the NBA -- LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Carmelo Anthony, Danny Granger, Joe Johnson, Kobe Bryant and Paul Pierce -- over the last three seasons.
Is it a perfect study? No, but hopefully you find it more interesting and engaging than the quick throw-away line most analysts use throughout the season: "Luc Mbah a Moute is just a really good defender." This is meant to provide you with a more detailed look at LRMAM's impact and where he excels against scorers with different approaches and skill sets.
To give you an idea of how this all works, here is the infographic and explanatory GIF I created for my analysis of LRMAM's impact on LeBron James (with a few tweaks I've made since the original):
