I, along with everyone else, am excited by the play of Khris Middleton and Giannis at small forward. But what happens when Caron Butler is healthy? It is unlikely that Larry Drew will play him 8 minutes a game or less. So, the solution is to move him. But with his salary, a prospect or draft choice in return is not workable. So trade him to Detroit for Charlie V. Why? This would accomplish the following. 1. He will give us a stretch 4 to replace Ersan when he is struggling or still hobbling. He will not steal minutes from John Henson but could from Epke Udoh. I would rather lose in a higher scoring game given the choice as he would be better on offense and worse on defense. 2. The contracts match fairly evenly and are both expiring. 3. Detroit needs another 3 and are loaded with 4s. And this would just give them help this year but not for the future. And if he works out, Ersan can be traded in the offseason as V could be signed cheap and Giannis could move to power forward as he is still growing. Then Henson could stay at center with Larry backing him up. There would be other possibilities given the flexibility of these players. Charlie would not demand minutes as Ersan does and if Henson plays pf, Zaza can back up Larry.
