What does it really take to draft an All-Star?

Stay connected for news and updates

I did some research today and am a little surprised at what I found. Out of 13 Eastern Conference All-Stars, they were drafted as follows: Pick 1-5 = 7 Pick 6-10 = 4 Pick 11-15 = 0 Pick 15-20 = 1 Pick 21+ = 1 Out of 12 Western Conference All-Stars, they were drafted as follows: Pick 1-5 = 8 Pick 6-10 = 0 Pick 11-15 = 1 Pick 15-20 = 1 Pick 21+ = 2 The Eastern Conference All-Stars average the 7th pick while The Western Conference All-Stars average the 9th pick with The average pick of a current All-Star being the 8th pick in the draft. I know John Hammond has said he wants top 5 picks and cap space, but maybe he should consider top 8 picks and good contracts (players that are outperforming their current contract). I thought this was interesting and wanted to share it with my fellow Brewhoopers. The guys that stood out as good picks were: Kobe Bryant at the 13th pick David Lee at the 30th pick Tony Parker at the 28th pick Rajon Rondo at the 21st pick Paul George at the 10th pick Jrue Holiday at the 17th pick (really? I thought he was drafted higher - Yahoo Sports had 17th pick listed) Brook Lopez at the 10th pick and Joakim Noah at the 9th pick.
