Bucks coaching search primer: A podcast discussing the basics of Milwaukee's next move

USA TODAY Sports

The Milwaukee Bucks are busy searching for their next head coach. We discuss the candidates and the general direction of the franchise heading into a pivotal off-season.

The Scott Skiles era is now finally over in Milwaukee, and the Bucks are in search of their next full-time head coach. Jim Boylan's interim stint bridged the gap for a few months and kept many elements of the Skiles system in place (as I noted back in January), so only now can the franchise truly move on and do something different. John Hammond is said to be looking for a defensive-minded head coach capable of controlling a locker room. Stan Van Gundy, Jerry Sloan, Kelvin Sampson and Mike Malone have all been mentioned as potential candidates for the job.

Nobody really knows what Hammond will do after such a disappointing end to the season, but he will need to decide on a coach before some big roster choices regarding Brandon Jennings, J.J. Redick and Monta Ellis come to pass. Frank Madden joined me discuss what the end of the Skiles era means, how the new candidates fit into a vision for the future, and the practical reasons why a full-blown tanking plan still can't happen in Milwaukee.

If you've already selected your guy, or if you want the Bucks to tank and go for the top pick next year, be sure to give the podcast a listen and then pass your thoughts along in the comments section. It's time to look toward the future, even if the 2013 NBA off-season is a bit scary to think about at the moment.
