It started with the Richard Jefferson trade in 2009. This is one of my all time favorites. Somehow the Bucks managed to trade Jefferson for literally nothing in return. Bruce Bowen retired ( how could anyone blame him) while Fabricio Oberto and Amir Johnson never played a game for the squad. Johnson was traded for Carlos Delfino. One of John Hammond's finest moves.
Next, lets fast forward to the trade deadline this year. Milwaukee had Brandon Jennings and Monta Ellis on the last year of their contracts and were in a hot race for the 8th seed and the right to get a size 18 foot shoved up their ass by the Heat. So what do the Bucks do? Go trade young talent away for yet another guard on thr last year of his contract! Pure brilliance once again.
And here we stand today. Ellis is going to walk and the Bucks will get nothing for him. They just traded Redick for a pile of trash and 2 second round picks and I assume they will match a terrible offer sheet for Jennings. While the Bucks could have traded Ellis for a decent asset at the deadline and held on to Tobias Harris instead of trading for Redick, they managed to cement their place in the continuing battle for the 8th seed, thw worst position to be in.
With a GM who has a fully functioning brain, the Bucks could have rebuilt in 2-3 years by trading their vets for younger assets, getting higher draft picks and hopefully getting a top 5 pick in thr 2014 draft. At this moment, it appears none of this is likely. All Bucks fans should hope for is the opportunity to suck at their job, not only avoid being fired, but get a multi year extension like Hammond got last year. Hard to imagine another profession that operates like that. So here's to another decade of mediocrity Milwaukee! Fear the anually barely sub .500 deer!
