alright, so I've been thinking about the bucks future a lot lately and have decided to sign up here so i can discuss it with fellow bucks fans.
looking up and down our roster, obviously there are a lot of problems. but what i want to focus on is my belief that i see only four guys who are worthy or going to be worthy of being a proper piece on a real contender, which of course is what we want to be in the not too distant future. henson, giannis, knight and sanders are those four guys, and of those four only the first two are indispensable.
as far as i can tell, everyone is pretty set on henson and giannis being our forwards of the future, but i've seen a lot of doubts about knight and a number of trade rumors involving sanders. take away knights disastrous first six games which we will put down to his injury/getting settled, and his numbers for the season are nothing to sneeze at. in 33.13 minutes he's put up 18.4 points on 43.2% shooting, 4.5 assists, 4.4 rebounds, 1.2 steals, 0.1 blocks and 2.5 turnovers. there is no doubt he can score, but obviously his assist ratio, and assist to turnover ratio both could do with some work. my defense; this is actually his best season to date in that regard, which could be a sign that coach drew is slowly influencing the young guard. everyone knows how he turned jeff teague, who was an awful distributor himself early on in his career, into one of the league's top playmakers. sure, knight is not a perfect player, and likely never will be, but he gives maximum effort on both ends of the court and is still only 22. at this stage, i don't see his trade value fairly matching what he can actually do for us, and with our lack of any other real options, i want to keep him around and give him every opportunity to be our point guard (or shooting guard) of the future.
larry is an interesting case, because obviously at his best he is one of the best post defenders in the league and probably a top ten center too. clearly his season thus far hasn't been what we all hoped it would be, but this is a guy who can most definitely be a vital piece on a contending team. the thing is, i'm sure most other teams know this too, and therefore he definitely has some trade value. it is widely believed that the top six of this years upcoming draft is absolutely phenomenal, and the only way i'd be happy with a larry trade is if we got another top six pick in return. obviously we would need to chuck some other assets in to the equation, but i like the idea in theory. does depend on if embiid and/or parker do indeed nominate for the draft though. no embiid, no trade in my opinion.
whatever road we go down. sanders-henson-parker/wiggins-giannis-knight, or embiid-henson-giannis-knight-smart/exum are both pretty amazing cores moving forward.
would love to hear everyone else's thoughts on knight and larry and whether or not we should trade the latter. also, who everyone thinks we should draft.
