CB's Big Board v1.0

It's March 1st tomorrow and with March comes the NCAA tournament, our last chance to see the College prospects before workouts and the draft. The Bucks have a bigger stake than usual this year with an almost guaranteed Top 5 pick. Most experts have been pretty fluid with their top few picks this year, no huge drops or no huge gains, so where does that leave me?

This as mentioned is a Big Board and is a generic ranking for players based solely on talent and projected upside. I am not listing the teams at each pick spot as it wouldn't affect my selection. We'll go 1-20.

Joel-Hans Embiid-Franchise centre in the making, I have been wavering between him and Wiggins for the last few weeks, it's Embiid unless he decides not to declare. He has a fantastic chance to be a game-changing, franchise-lifting, two-way centre in the NBA for many years to come. Show sa good post game, a little bit of range, good passing skills, rebounding, and shot-blocking. Needs to improve his defense and cut down on his fouling but I am confident that will come.

Andrew Wiggins-He has a great chance to be the two-way wing that most good teams have, can score, drive, pass, rebound and play D. Still lots of potential although he hasn't shown as much as people hoped for I just see him betting better and better every year until he's an automatic All-Star. Very nice consolation proze for missing on Embiid

Jabari Parker-For me Parker is a distant 3rd, not sure why but it's almost that I'd be disappointed with him. Maybe he reminds me of Steve Urkel without glasses, just not sure. What I do know is that I can envision a front-line of Sanders, Parker and Antentokuonmpo being very good, although I just can't shake the feeling that 3 or 4 years down the line I wouldn't be happy.

Noah Vonleh-Reeeeeaaaachhhhhhhhhh. Ya I know, it was supposed to be Dante Exum, but for some reason I have fallen for Vonleh. I see a guy like LaMarcus Aldridge who can also D up a little. Guy has a 7'4" wingspan and while not particularily athletic can be a force in the NBA. Can face-up, shoot from 3, post-up and is a very good rebounder. And on the topic of lookalikes is he not a shorter Ralph Sampson with a slightly bigger head?

6. Hi-res-455019909-julius-randle-of-the-kentucky-wildcats-watches-a-free_crop_north_medium

via kysportsconnection.com

Julius Randle-But, but, but Dante Exum? Not yet ok. Julius Randle will be a double/double machine in the NBA, strong, tough as nails even though he is a bit undersized. With his driving ability if he can take the ball and shoot it from the elbow he will be lethal. May never amount to much on the other end but the offense will make up for it. Randle seems to have fallen out of favour with a lot of "experts" but I still like him at #5.

4. Dante-exum_medium

Dante Exum-I'll be honest, he scares me. Will he be able to shoot to save his life? Very intriguing prospect but I'd be very hesitant to take him. Love his upside but think there's a good chance he's a bust too.Great first step and good handles had me for a bit, he was my #4 for a while but I like everyone else a little bit more.

Tyler Ennis-A Canadian PG who plays at Syracuse(my fave NCAA College)should be my #1 pick. Really love the guy, his BBIQ, super-clutchness and intangibles make him a great prospect. Not super-athletic but he's going to be a very good pro. Love to get another 1st to draft him although I doubt it will happen.

7. I_medium

via a.espncdn.com

Marcus Smart-Another guy I don't really like, there's no denying the leadership and intangibles he possesses, I just don't think he's going to be able to do what he does in College in the NBA. Not a great point guard, not a great shooter either, is he destined to be like a Tony Allen? I'm not even sure I'd pick him at all.

9. Gary-harris061111-231x300_medium

via blogs.courier-journal.com

Gary Harris-For me there is a steep drop off after 7, most of the guys leading up to the 20th pick are somewhat interchangeable. I do like Gary Harris because he can score and defend. Going back for his sophmore year may have helped him(unlike others)and I think he'll be an above average NBA 2 guard.

10. I_medium

via a.espncdn.com

Aaron Gordon-Another guy I don't really like, I get what he can do, but I also see what he can't do. If he can ever get a 15 footer, he'd be lethal but I think the Blake comps are way overblown.

11. Timthumb_php_medium

via www.bhbasket.ba

Jusuf Nurkic-Okay I'm taking a shot here, as mentioned previously all the guys 8-20 are pretty close imo, I am taking a guy here who has huge offensive potential, think Pek.

12. Hi-res-166733650_crop_north_medium

via img.bleacherreport.net

Nik Stauskas-I think Nik will be doing that for years to come in the NBA and on top of that, he's Canadian. His in the mould of Gordon Hayward, pretty good ball-handler, good shooter and really smart ball-player. Needs some work on D and isn't extremely athletic(duh, he's white)

13. Hi-res-461312161-rodney-hood-of-the-duke-blue-devils-reacts-after-making_crop_exact_medium

via img.bleacherreport.net

Rodney Hood-A guy who I think should be better than he is, still has a lot of upside and would feel comfortable taking at 13.

14. 1390335480_medium

via content.draftexpress.com

Clint Capela-Upside, upside, upside....could actually go higher.

15. Jamesyoung_medium

via content.draftexpress.com

James Young-Another guy who I feel should be showing better than he is, what's going to make him a good pro? Worth a shot at 15 though.

16. Wayneselden_medium

via content.draftexpress.com

Wayne Selden-Not sure if he'll be entering the draft but I'd be happy with him here. Could be a big-time scorer at SG, nice size and can score in many ways, has somewhat underwhelmed at Kansas.

17. P

via content.draftexpress.com

P.J. Hairston-The D-League route didn't do wonders for Glen Rice Jr.'s NBA career, but it got him drafter. P.J. is a gifted scorer sho will benefit from a year in the D.

18. Dariosaric_medium

via content.draftexpress.com

Dario Saric-Definitely has some allure, another point forard, good passer, good rebounder, needs work on his shot. In the right system I think he could be good, would be redundant with Giannis imo.

19. K

via content.draftexpress.com

K. J. McDaniels-This is a guy who is going to rise up some boards and may end up int he lotto. Extremely good athlete, will be able to defend multiple positions and be a decent scorer probably.

20. Williecauley-stein_medium

via content.draftexpress.com

Willie Cauley-Stein-I'll admit, I hate hyphenated names but that's not why I am not big on WCS. The few times I have watched him play I just see a big guy who is not very good. If he wasn't a 7 footer I doubt he'd be a 2nd round pick.

Feel free to banter, argue, discuss in the comments below, I certainly am not a Hoops expert, this is based almost entirely on opinion and bias.

March 15th-Made some changes to the Top 8 order, rather than switch around the pictures I just changes the numbers so it's

  1. Embiid
  2. Parker
  3. Wiggins-drop after Wiggins
  4. Exum
  5. Vonleh
  6. Randle
  7. Smart-Drop after Smart
  8. Ennis-Not a strong pick here either but I don't really like anyone outside that 7 anyway
