Mid-Draft trades send players, picks to Chicago, Philadelphia

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

Mid-draft trades are here! Chicago swaps two picks to jump up and land a scoring machine, while Philadelphia lands a Euro stash.

Multiple reports indicate that the Denver Nuggets have traded Doug McDermott, the 11th overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, to the Chicago Bulls in exchange for the 16th and 19th overall picks.

Chicago was rumored to be actively pursuing shooters in the draft, particularly Nik Stauskas and McDermott. The Bulls excellent defense hasn't had even an above-average offense to complement it, and adding more perimeter scoring should help improve Chicago's ability to score in multiple ways. Not only can McDermott get buckets anywhere on the court, but his shooting ability should help stretch the floor for point guard Derrick Rose, who should return next season.

The move also aids Chicago in clearing a little more cap space in anticipation of a free-agency run at Carmelo Anthony or LeBron James. Such a pursuit is likely to still require additional moves, most importantly waiving Carlos Boozer via the CBA's amnesty provision.

In addition, the Philadelphia 76ers have reportedly swapped the 10th overall pick, PG Elfrid Payton, to the Orlando Magic in exchange for Dario Saric. The two are also rumored to be swapping future draft picks.
