Kendall Marshall In the Summer League

The Bucks made it official today, grabbing Kendall Marshall off of the waiver wire to shore up our point guard position. Marshall who is mostly popular for his twitter game, passing prowess and not being known, looks to add depth and movement to the Bucks offense this season. He played in this past weeks summer league and so you don't have to go back and watch four Summer League Lakers games, I watched them for you!

Los Angeles Lakers vs Toronto Raptors | Box Score | Marshall : 27 minutes 2-8, 5 Ast, 4 pts

Marshall started at point guard and right away it was very obvious that he always looks to pass first, he passes on an open 3 to get his first assist. When he gets the ball in transition he always looks down court to make the pass and push the pace, you can really see why the Bucks would pick him up. With Giannis Antetokounmpo and Jabari Parker pushing the pace will be really great. Marshall's stats are likely to not represent his impact on his summer league games, his game relies heavily on the performance of his teammates in catching the ball and making the shots he sets his teammates up for. For example I counted 5+ missed assists in just the first half alone, he set up good shots for his teammates that just didn't fall.

Los Angeles Lakers vs New Orleans Pelicans | Box Score | Marshall : 27 min 3-10. 4 ast, 11 pts

More of the same for Marshall in this game. He would really excel with people making shots. Kendall started at the 2 in this game probably to get more looks for younger guys that didn't start 45 games in the NBA last year. His Pick and Roll game is really good, Kendall's really good at fitting passes through small windows. Missed assists in this game 6.

Los Angles Lakers vs Golden State Warriors | Box Score | Marshall: 24 mins 4-8, 2 ast, 11 pts

Marshall started at point here, and started it off well knocking down his first few shots. Yet again his assist number suffered from lack of teammates hitting shots. Every game there is at least one pass that impresses. He is usually always the guy at the beginning of a highlight to pass it to the dunker. Kendall got taken to the hole a few times by quicker guards but overall defended well and his shot was falling, which is rare. Missed assists: 4

Los Angeles Lakers vs Philedelphia 76ers | Box Score | Marshall: 26 mins 2-9, 1 ast, 7 pts

The final game for Marshall only had the highlights on the NBA summer league app. Marshall had some solid passes and just in general looked the same. Kendall's stats look better the better his team looks. If his teammates are hitting shots he is getting assists. Still not strong at scoring or shooting, but that's pretty much as advertised.

Los Angeles Lakers vs Denver Nuggets | Box Score | Marshall: DNP

Kendall was asked why he didn't play, still awaiting a response...

Overall his game is what a point guard is "supposed" to be. If he can get his 3 point shot to start falling he could be a great pick up by the Bucks. He almost seems afraid to shoot, he passes a lot but sometimes he passes out of open shots that he should just take. His on the ball defense was OK, he is missing some lateral quickness but that's always been a knock on him.

It will be interesting to see him on the Bucks, reuniting him and John Henson could really help Henson's game. He knows how to run an offense and get the right guy the ball. Plus there is always the wild card of learning under Kidd. We don't really know how good Jason Kidd will be at teaching our young PG's. Kendall has the court vision and passing skills to really excel as a Buck and I look forward to him improving the Bucks roster.
