The Brew Hoop community has selected Cody Zeller, PF/C, Indiana, for the 12th spot on its 2013 Draft Board. Zeller followed up a good freshman season with a terrific sophomore year, leading a talented Indiana squad to a #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Zeller was considered one of the top interior scorers in college basketball, showcasing efficient scoring and a mature post game. His 62.3 true shooting percentage is excellent for a big man who never shoots 3s, and speaks to how frequently he drew contact on his shot: Zeller's 73.2 free-throw rate was 26th in the nation, according to KenPom.com, and he knocked down over 75% of his foul shots. He's also quick to get up and down the floor, and should be right at home in the faster-paced professional game. There are concerns about his toughness, though, amplified by some late-season struggles when he faced more imposing interior defenders. He's also not a great defender, though his length should help him develop on that end. He looks more likely to settle in at the 4 than the 5, especially if he can provide a little floor spacing with his mid-range jumper. If a drafting team can pair him with a physical defender in the frontcourt, he could prove to be a steal outside the top-10.
