On the Pelicans: At the Hive | Bourbon Street Shots
Henson looking like a veteran. John Henson claims he's looking to work on his mid-range game in Vegas, but when things are as easy as they were on Saturday night against Denver...well, who needs jumpers when you can just dunk it? Henson need just 20 minutes and 10 shots to ring up 19 points, 13 boards and three blocks in Saturday night's 88-74 win over Denver, looking like a man among boys....despite, well, still looking like a (really tall) boy in many ways himself. Free agent combo guard Dominique Jones added a solid 18 points on 10 shots, while second rounder Nate Wolters was a bit underwhelming in shooting just 2/8 with three assists in 22 minutes.
New Orleans update. The Pelicans opened their Vegas schedule with a 77-72 win over the Knicks, though for most 'can fans the result was secondary to the promising play of Austin Rivers (!). The much-maligned 2012 lottery pick scored 24 points on 15 shots to go with seven boards and six assists. New Orleans was without rookies Jeff Withey and Pierre Jackson (part of the Tyreke Evans sign-and-trade deal) on Friday due to paper work and physicals not getting done, but they're expected to play tonight. Considering ol' Bucks favorite Jon Brockman started at center against New York, Withey should be a welcome addition and may well start to contain Henson and Ayon.
