Shafftys 2014-2015 Jabari Parker Rookie Watch, First 7

As a recap I will be watching every game after the fact and specifically watching Jabari, grading him as if he was a MyPlayer in NBA 2k15. He will start with 250 points or a flat C every game each good move made from passing the ball, assisting, dunking, or setting screens will award him either 5, 10, or 15 points. However every bad move made like losing your man on D, allowing offensive rebounds, or turning the ball over will lose him 5, 10, or 15 points. For a more in-depth breakdown of all the grades and grade scale check out my preview article.

Jabaris first seven games were everything I expected. Mistakes sprinkled among highlight plays and silky smooth jumpers. Bad defense with good offense. I expected him to not grade out well because this system usually favors someone with good defense, ball movement and solid play around the rim. While Jabari gets lost a lot on defense and also forgets to box out. He has a nose for the rebound and surprisingly gets a lot of steals.

Charlotte Hornets vs Milwaukee Bucks

37 MIN | 3-9 | 2-2 FT | 4 Reb | 1 Ast | 8 pts | -13

Jabaris first official NBA start. Jabaris First official NBA points. I'm sure this was a very exciting game for Jabari, He came out hot as well earning a lot of positive grades in the first quarter and going into the half with a +90 or a solid B. However towards the end of the game he gave up points in bunches losing over 50 points in the 4th quarter for allowing his man to score. His final grade was a B-

31 Min | 5-11 FG | 0-2 FT | 10 Reb | 0 Ast | 11 Pts | +15

1st Quarters are apparently Jabari's time to shine fueled by rebounds and good team ball, he came out +60 or a B- at the end of the first quarter. He continued his positive gains into the rest of the game. Only losing points from a few turnovers and losing his man. Overall Jabari had a solid game and ended with a very good B+.

Washington Wizards vs Milwaukee Bucks

34 Min | 5-17 FG | 2-2 FT | 11 Reb | 0 Ast | 13 Pts | -4

Jabari was really saved by playing the 4 here. With 5 turnovers and sloppy defense he had a lot of negative plays this game, however grabbing 11 boards really helped him to pull out his B-, ending the game with a string of +50 in the last 5 minutes of the game to get him out of the dreaded C range.

Indiana Pacers vs Milwaukee Bucks

27 Min | 5-12 FG | 0-0 FT | 3 Reb | 2 Ast | 10 Pts | -2

Parker continues to have strong first quarters followed by ok second quarters. Partly because Jabari was subbed out with 2 minutes left in the 1st quarter and didn't return to action untill 5:02 in the second, and this isn't even the longest he has sat through the second quarter. However he was able to recover after halftime and have a GREAT start to the 3rd quarter. He ended the night with a B+ but most importantly a W.

Chicago Bulls vs Milwaukee Bucks

25 MIN | 4-12 FG | 0-2 FT | 6 Reb | 0 Ast | 8 Pts | -19

This was in my opinion Parkers worst game of the season so far. He finished with a mediocre C+ and shot poorly. His defense has still been his one glaring hole most of his lost points are from losing his man or allowing the offensive rebound. Boxing out would help his grades immensely.

Detroit Pistons vs Milwaukee Bucks

28 MIN | 8-14 FG | 2-4 FT | 5 Reb | 1 Ast | 18 Pts | -7

Yet again Jabari is left on the bench and loses almost an entire quarter, he was subbed out at 2:37 in the first and didn't return to the floor until 2:55. Whats most baffling about this is that he had a 60+ point first quarter. Although he had three "allowed man to scores." Defense will continue to be his downfall for the foreseeable future it seems. However he finished very strong. with his highest scoring game so far in terms of points and teammate grade with a very high B+.

Memphis Grizzlies vs Milwaukee Bucks

27 MIN | 6-11 FG | 0-0 FT | 4 Reb | 1 Ast | 13 Pts | 0

Parker only played 3 quarters. and suffered from not boxing out the large chunk of man meat known as Zach Randolph. However he shot well and grabbed some boards. Playing the 3 means he didn't have to guard Z-BO or Marc Gasol and instead had to guard Tayshaun Prince. Which was a little better match up for him he could afford to sag off because he didn't have to worry about Tayshaun splashing 3's in his face. He ended the night after the 3rd quarter with a +95 or a solid B.

Summary:

I watched every game twice, once live for my own enjoyment and again for this project. After the first watch I would grade Jabari right away, not from watching him but just from how I felt he did during the game. Than I took the fine folks from buckskettball's grades to see if the system was close to how I and buckskettball felt. It was surprisingly accurate, most of the time either matching me or bucksketball or both. After the first month I will try to aggregate some of the stats he's gained and try to put out some charts about what he is mostly losing points on and gaining points on.

As always if you have any questions feel free to leave a comment or tweet me @shafftybro. I have all of the grades written down play by play, so if you have a specific game question feel free to ask!
