The NBA announced today that Jabari Parker was selected as the 2014-2015 season's first Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month. Through the end of November, Parker was first among rookies in scoring (11.9 ppg) and second in rebounding (6.1 rpg) and steals (1.33 spg). Parker is also second in PER among rookies at 15.7.
While Parker hasn't separated himself from his fellow rookies the way many predicted he would before he'd even played a game in the pros, his relative consistency stands out among a class that's struggling to live up to the significant hype it carried into the season. Parker has been playing particularly well lately, averaging over 14 points per game on 52% shooting in his last ten games. That includes a 22 point outing against LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers that just missed the November cutoff. Hopefully there's plenty more big-time performances to come.
Joining Parker in rookie honors is the man picked one spot ahead of him in the 2014 NBA Draft, Andrew Wiggins. Wiggins is second among rookies in scoring (11.6 ppg) and first in three-point percentage (44%). He also leads all first-year players in usage rate.
