Brew Hoop Community Draft Board - Pick #6

Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

The #5 spot on Brew Hoop's 2015 Community Draft Board goes to Justise Winslow, the 19 year old swingman from Duke University.

Somewhat overlooked among his own teammates due to the presence of top recruits Jahlil Okafor and Tyus Jones, Winslow didn't really step into the spotlight until the second half of Duke's season. But when he did, hoo boy did he leave his mark. Winslow emerged as a centerpiece of Duke's smallball lineup that carried them all the way to a National Championship, playing extensive minutes as a de facto power forward despite standing just 6-foot-7.

Winslow played tremendous defense for the Blue Devils, checking perimeter players and big men alike. Scouts were impressed not only with his one-on-one work against presumably bigger or quicker opponents, but with his ability to thrive as a team defender. He made good, smart rotations and always looked engaged.

Athleticism, toughness, and defense will catch plenty of attention from NBA teams, but his offense will need to make good on significant potential to be truly worthy of a top pick. He's a good spot-up shooter with range (46/111 3PT, 41%), though he didn't have such a reputation entering college. If that improvement is real, it's a great sign. But if his shooting regresses, it's hard to tell exactly where Winslow's scoring will come from.
