Bucks Sign Gary Payton II to 2-Way Deal

The deal fits The Mitten like a glove

The long short national citywide Bucks Twitter nightmare is over: the Milwaukee Bucks have retained the services of Gary Payton II, and The Mitten will likely be a featured player with the Wisconsin Herd.

For those who have been following this story, the deal comes as no surprise. Payton II is a 3 & D point guard who is strong on D but weak from three, and while the Bucks could certainly use point guard depth, they have enough playmaking from Giannis Antetokounmpo and Khris Middleton to afford Payton II some valuable development time away from the parent club.

The flexibility of the two-way deal will allow GPII to makes some spot appearances and give the guards some breathers as the schedule ramps up. During the pre-season, he looked like the favorite to land that 15th roster spot and even participated in the Bucks’ marketing day.

Monitoring Payton II’s development in Oshkosh, both offensively and defensively, will be something to keep an eye on with the Herd along with newly acquired guard, Xavier Munford. The Bucks still have one two-way contract open and will be looking to fill that soon and end this musical chair game of two-way contracts.
