Welcome to the Brew Hoop Night Shift. Every evening at 9:00pm (central time), this all-purpose thread goes up, and the comments section is where it’s going down. What Bucks news did we not cover? What topics do you want to break down further? Or is there something non-Bucks that you want to bounce off of one another? Even something non-basketball? This is the place.
Today’s (on)topic: 99 Predictions
99 predictions for the 2017-18 NBA season https://t.co/1rHJSVuHaX
— Tom Ziller (@teamziller) October 17, 2017
With these 99 predictions on the forthcoming NBA season there are bound to be some that are probably going to be false right off the bat. I’ll highlight some of the Buck-centric predictions.
Giannis Antetokounmpo is not there yet. Almost. The Bucks need to be better.
I think coming off a statistical anomaly of a season would qualify as “there,” but I guess he still has some ground to cover in the national conversation. I also don’t buy that “the Bucks need to be better” for Giannis to get “there.” Folks have no problem gushing over Joel Embiid. If only Antetokounmpo were a wise-cracking, injury-prone center, then he would truly get some attention regardless of how the franchise performs.
Here are your 2017-18 All-NBA teams. On the first team we have Stephen Curry, Russell Westbrook, LeBron James, Kawhi Leonard, and Karl-Anthony Towns. On the second team we have James Harden, Kyrie Irving, Anthony Davis, Kevin Durant, and Rudy Gobert. On the third team, we have John Wall, Chris Paul, Jimmy Butler, Blake Griffin, and DeAndre Jordan. The biggest snubs include DeMar DeRozan (an outrage!), Damian Lillard (unconscionable!), Draymond Green (disrespectful!), and DeMarcus Cousins (no comment).
The biggest snub is also the one with the biggest name. There is a glaring omission on this list. How do you even leave Giannis off a mock All-NBA list and not, at the very least, include him in the snub category, but have no problem putting DeRozan as a snub.
The Bucks will be quite solid, too... Milwaukee would probably be the No. 11 team out West. That’s likely good enough for No. 7 in the East.
Number seven in the East? Nah, that’s too low. I think we’d all be happy with a playoff spot, but regressing to the seven seed in a weakened East would feel like a hollow accomplishment.
I am intrigued by that potential Eric Bledsoe trade prediction though.
Today’s (off)topic: Halloween Pranks
Has anyone actually pulled a prank on Halloween night? Like throwing eggs or toilet paper-ing someone’s house? How about mindless vandalism? I don’t think I have ever heard of, or partaken in, a slightly destructive prank on Halloween night. I guess I actually wasn’t a cool teen.
As a general rule, non-basketball topics are permitted in an open thread, provided that they follow the SB Nation Community Guidelines.
