Brew Hoop Graveyard Shift: October 9th, 2017

New, comments

[lights flicker]

Welcome to the Brew Hoop Night Shift. Every evening at 9:00pm (central time), this all-purpose thread goes up, and the comments section is where it’s going down. What Bucks news did we not cover? What topics do you want to break down further? Or is there something non-Bucks that you want to bounce off of one another? Even something non-basketball? This is the place.

Today’s (on)topic: Joel Embiid Extension

[squints down at card, adjusts glasses] Hmm, seems way high. Sure, he flashed some nice skill in the 31 games he played last season, but those are the only games he has played in since 2014.

Once I got over the riskiness of the deal, I directed my thoughts to Jabari Parker. Unlike Embiid, he has contributed more since 2014. Like Embiid, he is also injury prone. Like Embiid, he is also up for an extension. I don’t know exactly how I would feel if Parker got an Embiid extension (not thrilled, probably), but the market has been set for injury prone 2014 draft picks.

Jabari’s impending free agency is the first major test the new front office faces in shaping the franchise for the foreseeable future. You have to think that Parker’s people are going to point to Embiid’s contract as a target for how they want the contract talks to shake out.

Today’s (off)topic: Halloween Themed Music Videos

Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” was before my time but that is definitely the standard as far as spooky music videos go. I will always have a soft spot in my heart for the Backstreet Boys’ classic banger, “Everybody,” and their Halloween party themed video, though. Enjoy the tunes!

As a general rule, non-basketball topics are permitted in an open thread, provided that they follow the SB Nation Community Guidelines.
