NBA Awards 2017: Giannis Chosen as Finalist for Most Improved Player Award

Giannis would be the first Buck ever to win the award

Can we just skip to June 26th already and give Giannis the award? Tonight on TNT, the NBA revealed the finalists for its big NBA Awards bash late next month, and Milwaukee’s own Giannis Antetokounmpo was revealed as one of the candidates for the Most Improved Player award. The other candidates include Rudy Gobert and Nikola Jokic.

This comes on the heels of Giannis being named 2nd Team All-NBA earlier in the week. Oh ya, he also happened to be by far the youngest of that illustrious crop of players.

Many pundits named Giannis their most improved player after the regular season, aka, the time when awards should be given out because people still care about the regular season. His sudden teleportation into the NBA’s upper crust means he should probably be considered the frontrunner for the award, and Giannis would be the first Bucks player to ever win the award. Gobert’s presence among that same company is duly noted, but the NBA’s antiquated All-NBA rules mean each tier must include a center. Regardless, I'll take my chances with Giannis.

Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait more than a month and survive several hours of a interminably boring awards show just to find out whether he’ll receive an award after not playing a game for over a month and a half. Oh well, hopefully the memes will be funny.
