Giannis Says “I’ll tell you what basketball is” in New Video

Speaking his native Greek, Giannis breaks down what the sport is to him

NBA: Playoffs-Toronto Raptors at Milwaukee Bucks Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports

As has become the norm for emerging sports stars, there’s a new video focused on Giannis Antetokounmpo making its way around the internet today, and for good reason. It is really something.

I originally noticed this on the Milwaukee Bucks subreddit this evening. Whenever I have downtime, I’ll take a glance at what’s going on in this space, but the advertisement-turned-motivational-short-film blew me away and is worth your three minutes.

The original poster (dante80, who also posted the YouTube video) included some background information as a comment on the post:

Giannis Antetokounmpo breaks down Basketball.

Re-uploaded Greek advertisement, added english hardsub translation.

It's a pretty cool ad, made for the Milko company here in Greece (a chocolate milk product). As a company, they are pretty active in supporting basketball in Greece, sponsoring streetball events and exhibitions among other things. I thought providing a translation for the english audience would be worthwhile, please go easy on me since it's the first time I use Aegisub.

I don’t know what Milko is, but I want some.

The video is in Greek (obviously) but was translated with English subtitles, and Giannis provides the sort of platitudes that NBA super-duper-stars are well known for espousing. But as one of the biggest selling points of Giannis overall, the ad demonstrates a certain genuine love for the sport, as it highlights both the highs and lows of anybody who’s put in any amount of time on the court. In watching the video, I found myself saying “Yeah, I can relate to a bunch of these things.”

Anyways, check it out, and let me know if you ever come across one of those “GREEK FR34K” shirts, because that logo is dope.
