Ranking the Roster 2017: Who are the Most Valuable Milwaukee Bucks Players?

New, comments

The season is fast approaching, which means it’s time for our annual asset ranking

NBA: Milwaukee Bucks at Philadelphia 76ers Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

The annual Brew Hoop roster ranking is in its fourth iteration now, with last year’s series eventually crowning Giannis Antetokounmpo (duh) as the most valuable player on Milwaukee’s roster. With summer drawing to a close, it’s time to think once more about how the assets on Milwaukee’s roster shake out. For reference, here’s how last year’s ranking turned out:

2016-17 Brew Hoop Value Ranking Results

  1. Giannis Antetokounmpo
  2. Jabari Parker
  3. Khris Middleton
  4. Thon Maker
  5. Matthew Dellavedova
  6. Greg Monroe
  7. Mirza Teletovic
  8. Miles Plumlee
  9. John Henson
  10. Tony Snell (Michael Carter-Williams)
  11. Malcolm Brogdon
  12. Michael Beasley
  13. Rashad Vaughn
  14. Jason Terry
  15. Steve Novak

Oh sweet, sweet Steve Novak, you’ll always have a place in our hearts even if it certainly never was on the court. It’s interesting revisiting this list with the generous gift of hindsight. It seems crazy that Miles Plumlee even got to eighth given he’s on what seems like one of the least desirable contracts in the league, although that hasn’t stopped it from getting shopped around twice already. If I also had to guess, I’d say Matthew Dellavedova won’t be peering down from the lofty perch of number 5 in this year’s iteration.

The depressed rankings of Tony Snell, due mainly to a lack of knowledge and the fact he was acquired in the midst of these rankings, and Malcolm Brogdon are the two that seem most out of whack with what their inevitable performance was. That’s particularly true with Brogdon given the fact he’s playing for pennies over these next two years.

That serves as a fitting reminder that this ranking isn’t just based on who is the best player, but should be looked through the lens of roster building. Factor in player talent, contract situation, age, leadership potential, really whatever you think should be the primary factors when evaluating an asset on a roster. Now, let’s slap on our Horst hats and get to business.

Let us know in the poll below who is the least valuable player on Milwaukee’s roster.
