No, but seriously, it’s finally happening! After a months-long hiatus, the Milwaukee Bucks will take to the hardwood to play actual basketball against another NBA team! Tonight’s matchup is against a familiar face (in more ways than you’d think), as the Chicago Bulls come to town.
If you haven’t been around lately, you can always rely on David Dunn, aka Elijah Price, aka Teutonia World, aka the best dang Bucks video mogul on the internet, to come through with an entertaining (and somehow heartbreaking?) recap:
If you can’t watch the video, here’s the list in bullet point form:
- Joined: Brook Lopez, Ersan Ilyasova, Pat Connaughton, Donte DiVincenzo, Mike Budenholzer
- Gone: Jabari Parker, Jason Terry, Brandon Jennings, Telly Hughes, Sean Sweeney, Jason Kidd
- Old News: post-up basketball, mid-range jumpers, Tony Snell’s BlackBerry
- New Hotness: Threes, threes, threes, and more threes.
- Expectations: high!
Player to Watch: Giannis Antetokounmpo
It’s always Giannis. He didn’t play in the Green and Cream Scrimmage on Saturday, but he should be back out there tonight to experience what game conditions under Coach Bud are like. It should be a fun night.
Chicago’s offseason was all about risk and reward. After accidentally un-tanking for part of last season (until jettisoning Nikola Mirotic, who buoyed the team for a month almost single-handedly), the Bulls were content to tumble their way into the lottery, where they selected Wendell Carter Jr. More notably, the team seems to be focusing on collecting talent tainted by injury, as indicated by their massive overpay to retain Zach LaVine and the big (but short) contract handed to a certain former Buck. This team doesn’t know exactly what it is, but what’s clear is this: This team will score points, give up more points, and lose a lot as they figure out what their path back to relevance is.
In more recent news, guard Denzel Valentine is out with an ankle injury, and up-and-coming forward Lauri Markkanen is out for 6-8 weeks with an elbow injury, opening the door for...
Player to Watch: Jabari Parker
It’s already weird to see Parker playing in a different uniform, but it’s going to be EXTRA WEIRD seeing the former face of the franchise visiting the brand new Fiserv Forum in a red uni. There were all sorts of feelings across Bucks fandom over the summer, and perhaps tonight’s exhibition contest will bring some closure...but probably not.
At least in basketball terms, we know what Jabari is about. He’s a big body with uncanny quickness with the ball, and the only thing more spectacular than some of his drives to the rim...are how wide-open the driving lanes are that run past him on defense. No matter the outcome, Bucks fans will welcome the show, while still hoping for a positive outcome.
