Cap Crunch/Sushi

Welcome to the Brew Hoop Night Shift. Every evening at 9:00pm (central time), this all-purpose thread goes up, and the comments section is where it’s going down. What Bucks news did we not cover? What topics do you want to break down further? Or is there something non-Bucks that you want to bounce off of one another? Even something non-basketball? This is the place.

Tonight’s (on)topic: Cap Crunch

Ah the summer of 2016, when teams threw money around without a care in the world simply because they could. The salary cap seemed like it would keep on growing, until of course it didn’t and half the league is now over the cap or toeing the cap line. This has an obvious affect on the Bucks and what they plan on doing with re-signing players and even in the trade market (like acquiring a very inexpensive big man).

Jabari Parker’s expected big contract will throw the Bucks over the luxury tax line in large part due to two contracts signed during the summer of 2016. Matthew Dellavedova and Mirza Teletovic are both owed a combined $20 million or so for the 2018/19 season. Do we think the owners will pay the luxury tax to keep Jabari? I think they do since they have a new arena to fill and letting Parker walk would be the opposite message that “Own the Future” has been signaling the past few years.

Tonight’s (off)topic: Sushi

I love sushi so, so much. It is such a polarizing food in that some people can never get over the mental hump of eating raw fish which is completely warranted. Some cases of people not wanting to eat sushi come from a taste aversion to having bad sushi one time. I totally get that. I can’t eat marshmallow peeps after I ate about five of them at my grandma’s house for Easter and threw up everywhere. Any sushi roll that is spicy crab or spicy salmon and I am shoveling that into my mouth faster than Giannis running on a chase down block. So, do y’all like sushi?

As a general rule, non-basketball topics are permitted in an open thread, provided that they follow the SB Nation Community Guidelines.
