According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, it would appear that Mike Budenholzer remains the focus of the Milwaukee Bucks coaching search efforts. The wrench thrown into their plans is the Toronto Raptors, newly coachless after ousting Dwane Casey last week.
Mike Budenholzer has emerged as the focus of the Milwaukee and Toronto coaching searches, league sources tell ESPN. Raptors are opening conversations with Budenholzer and Bucks will re-engage with him early this week, sources said.

This all falls within the timeline Milwaukee appears to be taking, with Horst going through a slew of coaching interviews last week before widdling it down and going to ownership. Of course, we know how “going to ownership” went with last year’s GM search, so who knows how drawn out this process will be from here. What is clear is the Bucks seem to be targeting Bud, but they may need to act fast if they think that’s their prime choice. Masai Ujiri in Toronto is a keen operator, and with complete autonomy and faith up there, he has the authority to act swiftly and efficiently.
Stay tuned to see if Milwaukee finally snags their choice for head coach this week.
UPDATE:
Matt Velazquez of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel confirmed that the Milwaukee Bucks will be meeting with Mike Budenholzer for the second time tomorrow, this time with the ownership group involved.
