2018 Summer League: Milwaukee Bucks vs. Detroit Pistons Preview

Time for the debut of The Big Ragu......or not

The Bucks haven’t played a basketball game in 69 days (nice). But don’t worry, as we finally have the return of Vegas Summer League basketball.

Bucks Update

The roster has some familiar names including this year’s first round pick Donte DiVincenzo, and draft picks from last year D.J. Wilson and Sterling Brown. Wisconsin Herd players JeQuan Lewis and James Blackmon Jr. were also included on the roster.

There isn’t all good news however as Donte apparently is hurt and might not play in the first contest.

It would be a bummer as Donte is the marquee player that Bucks fans would be interested in seeing.

Player to Watch: D.J. Wilson

Since Donte’s playing status is still TBD, the player to watch will be D.J. Wilson. Wilson had a rookie year that was largely forgettable. Expectations for him going into next year are rock bottom; being on the court during meaningful minutes and flashing any abilities would be considered an improvement. We still don’t know what Wilson’s ceiling as an NBA player is and this would be a step in the right direction.

Pistons Update

Detroit finished 9th in the Eastern Conference, missing the playoffs in the process. The team also fired its former head coach Stan Van Gundy and hired coach of the year Dwayne Casey. Part of Casey’s staff includes infamous former Bucks assistant coach Sean Sweeney. While Detroit has filled its coaching staff and assistant GM role, the team for some reason doesn’t have a GM.

Player to Watch: Khyri Thomas

Thomas was a player that had particular interest from Bucks fans. The guard out of Creighton was drafted in the second round by Philadelphia 76ers and was traded to Detroit. He was a player that can shoot and play defense, winning the Big East Conference player of the year twice. It will be interesting to see how his game translates to the NBA level.

You can watch the game on NBATV at 6pm CST or it’s available via streaming on watchESPN.
