Bucks Vs. Sixers Summer League Preview: Back into the Swing of Things

A little basketball to quench your Bucks thirst...

NBA: Summer League-Dallas Mavericks at Milwaukee Bucks Stephen R. Sylvanie-USA TODAY Sports

Were you jonesing for any semblance of Bucks basketball? I know I was after the free agency frenzy this past week. While Summer League certainly won’t scratch that itch beyond a half-hearted effort, there’s still some intrigue to be had seeing how Milwaukee’s elder summer league statesman perform.

Bucks Update

Milwaukee brought Sterling Brown and D.J. Wilson back for a third year, likely to see how they could perform in larger roles on the court. Wilson still struggled last year in Vegas, but found his footing come the regular season as a competent gunner from deep and plenty of defensive aptitude. Brown showed more finishing ability and playmaking in Vegas last year, and flashed that stuff in spurts throughout the year. This should be a good proving ground for him. Beyond those two and Bonzie Colson, there’s really no one to recognize from the typical Bucks roster sans Xavier Munford, who continues to put in work with this organization in hopes of finally getting his big league break. Kudos to him.

Player to Watch: Fletcher Magee

Magee, a sharpshooter out of Wofford, is the NCAA leader for career 3-pointers. While he couldn’t hit the bottom of the net in their NCAA tournament ouster, he was a career 43.5% shooter from deep and hit 90.8% of his free throws. Sure sounds like a guy that would theoretically work within Bud’s system. He shot an astounding 10.8 3-point attempts per game his senior year. I hope coach Darvin Ham gives him the green light to chuck, as I’m curious if he’ll still be able to get his shot off effectively against better athletes.

Sixers Player to Watch: Matisse Thybulle

Thybulle, a defensive ace out of Washington, was someone I had hoped might drop to the Bucks slot should they have kept their selection. Apparently the Sixers wanted him bad though, and they’ve doubled up on defensive potential in back-to-back drafts now selecting Zhaire Smith last year. They’ll share the court today. Thybulle is limited offensively, so I’ll be interested to see how Philly deploys him against the Bucks. Here’s the rest of the 76ers roster too:

Game Details

I’m not even going to guess at potential starting lineups yet, so I’ll just leave the info about the game here. We’re going to use previews as the game threads for summer league as well. Happy commenting!
