You know it’s the slow news time of the NBA calendar when Woj starts tweeting out training camp signees, as he just did with the Milwaukee Bucks reportedly signing Jaylen Adams to a training camp deal.
Bucks are signing free agent guard Jaylen Adams to compete in training camp, league sources tell ESPN.

Perhaps not coincidentally, Adams also happens to be an alum of Woj’s alma mater, St. Bonaventure, but the man doesn’t get to tweet often about his school’s roundball alumni, so I’ll give him this one. For his part, Adams spent the last year with the Atlanta Hawks on a two-way contract that was converted into a roster spot in February. Adams was waived by the Hawks in early July, and it appears the Bucks we’re interested in bringing in some point guard depth to compete in training camp.
Adams played for the Hawks in 34 games last year, averaging 3.2 points, 1.9 assists and 1.8 boards in just 12.6 minutes per game. He also went just 33.8% from three on 2.2 attempts per game despite hitting 39.4% from deep in college (83.8% from the charity stripe). Most importantly though, we NEED to recall how he did in the Tim Frazier 50-minute marathon game. Eight points, two assists and two rebounds. Phew, so at least we know this isn’t a Doc Rivers, “get me that guy who went off against us” situation.
Milwaukee already filled its two-way slots earlier this summer as well with Frank Mason and Cameron Reynolds. With no true point guard depth past George Hill and Eric Bledsoe beyond Mason, one would think Adams’ main role will be to push the former Kansas player in training camp. I doubt he’d show enough to knock anyone out, although don’t count out that narrative coming around when training camp is here! We need some drama.
Expect to see more of these camp signees as the summer rolls on and fall rolls in.
Update: Like other likely camp invitees, sounds like the Bucks hope to land Adams on the Herd, per Matt Velazquez.
Can confirm the report that the Bucks are signing Jaylen Adams to a training-camp contract. Adams started last season on a two-way deal w/ the Hawks before signing for the rest of the season in Feb. He's someone the Bucks are targeting for an affiliate contract spot w/ the Herd.
