Ranking the Roster 2019: Counting Down the Most Valuable Milwaukee Bucks

Number one will surely be shrouded in mystery...

NBA: Charlotte Hornets at Milwaukee Bucks Kamil Krzaczynski-USA TODAY Sports

*blows dust off keyboard* Phew, it’s been awhile, huh? With September already nearing its completion, it’s hard to believe preseason NBA basketball is right around the corner. So snuggle up with that hot apple cider and Giannis Antetokounmpo body pillow (this is really weird, right?) and let’s dive into our annual ranking the roster exercise! As a Brew Hoop tradition enters its sixth year, it’s always worthwhile to reflect on how we left things last year:

2018 Brew Hoop Roster Ranking

  1. Giannis Antetokounmpo
  2. Khris Middleton
  3. Eric Bledsoe
  4. Malcolm Brogdon
  5. Brook Lopez
  6. Ersan Ilyasova
  7. Thon Maker
  8. Donte DiVincenzo
  9. Tony Snell
  10. Sterling Brown
  11. Pat Connaughton
  12. Matthew Dellavedova
  13. John Henson
  14. Christian Wood
  15. Tyler Zeller
  16. Shabazz Muhammad
  17. D.J. Wilson

Ah yes, I recall the days when everyone presumed D.J. Wilson was nothing more than a towel-waving fashion icon. Personally, I’ll peg him for the biggest rise up these rankings, but it’s actually pretty notable how few of these players will actually make an appearance in this year’s exercise. Nine of the 17 players here will be axed this year, bringing in newcomers Robin Lopez, Wesley Matthews Jr., Kyle Korver, Dragan Bender, Thanasis Antetokounmpo and holdover George Hill.

In the interest of time, we’re shortening the list to 15 this year to only include actual rostered players, but I’m actually curious about who might land in the last slot. Given the penchant for changing around two-way contracts, it didn’t seem prudent to include them among the masses. I hope Luke May Stans will also forgive me. I’ll provide an option to stick it to me, your friendly bloggerhood pollmaster, in there.

As a refresher and for newcomers, this is about ranking these players as assets. Myriad factors should be included, ranging from player age, experience, talent level, room to improve and current contract. Given the franchise’s aspirations, I’d also toss their ability to contribute in the Playoffs into the mix.

Without further ado, let’s dive right into it! I’ve left off only Giannis to start the festivities, because, you know, he’s Giannis.
