Brew Hoop Night Shift: January 3rd, 2020

Every evening at 9:00pm (EXCEPT TONIGHT(central time)), this all-purpose thread goes up, and the comments section is where it’s going down. What Bucks news did we not cover? What topics do you want to break down further? Or is there something non-Bucks that you want to bounce off of one another? Even something non-basketball? This is the place.

Tonight’s (On) Topic: TradeSZN is Open

Before last week’s Utah-Cleveland swap the NBA had gone literal months without any two teams consumating a trade. Like, literally not one transaction.

Well, as we throttle towards the February 6th trade deadline things are beginning to heat up both officially and in terms of wild fan theories:

We’ve discussed how unlikely it is that the Bucks will manage to swing a big trade this year between a smaller asset chest, desire to maintain team chemistry, and the gigantic 31 wins before staring all of us in the face. Still, GM Jon Horst managed to put a little package together last year at the death for a role player in Nikola Mirotic. While that experiment ended up in failure and Mirotic on the other side of the Atlantic, you get the feeling that something on that level could be in the works.

After all, what good is that Indiana Pacer first-rounder if it’s just going to keep reminding us that the debate about He Who Shall Not Be Named isn’t over just yet?

Tonight’s (Off) Topic: ResolutionSZN

Everyone loves a good resolution 48-72 hours into a new year. Whether it’s something we’ve all heard before (can’t wait to sign up for that sweet gym membership!) or completely novel (time to learn Ancient Greek), there’s something at least a little inspirational hearing what it is our fellow human beings want to see themselves do in the year ahead.

For me, I’d like to make 2020 the “Year of Output”. I’m keeping it nebulous for a reason, but the general gist is a drive to do more with my freetime that isn’t utterly wasteful. It can be journaling, writing up stuff for Brew Hoop, reading, writing stuff for my personal site, or doing everything I can to find the next move in my Big Finance Career. Either way, I want output; meaningful, tangible, man-I’m-proud-I-did-all-that-good-work output.

So, how about you? Anything you’re striving for in the year ahead? Or do you find pinning lifestyle changes on an arbitrary point in the Earth’s orbit around the Sun all a bit silly?
