Bucks, Team and Individual goals

At the end of the previous season and during the bubble, the team looked like missing the spirit to really compete. Their best game was when Giannis got hurt and a fire went through the team. We won that game. I’ll list the prominent causes for let’s say this complacency:

1. Bud’s scheme and system doesn’t encourage his players to stand out individualy much of the time. Actions seem to be restricted to specific things.
2. The Black Lives matter movement impacted some players more, especially Hill seemed to be absent mentally in games which affected his performance.
3. There didn’t seem to exist ambitious individual goals for each player. The team goal to finish first seed was achieved even before the bubble games started. Imo players that seemed like wanting to proof something in those games: Giannis, Khris, Wes, Korver, Marvin. From this group Korver and Marvin couldn’t keep up with the youth. Wes did great, but I always worried he couldn’t go through the whole playoff journey if we reached the finals. Khris was double teamed by Orlando and pretty much he needs some time to find his shooting. Giannis was walled off.

So when we look at the season ahead of us the team needs new team goals, like being the best defensive team and ambitious individual goals that will allow the players to seek improvement. First step towards this is for each player to share what goals he would like to achieve. A fact that I liked was that in the pre-season the team approaches a slower preparation routine and the first days are dedicated to talk and learn to know the new additions.

Without having a close wire to what is going on in this preparation the question I would like each player is, "What is your indivudual highly ambitious personal goal for this season?". I did a simulation for each player what this could be.

1. Giannis: Repeat for a third time in a row as MVP of the league, by implementing a more playoff ready style of play.
2. Khris: Get plays for him drawn out by the coaching team, to find space and try to join th 50/40/90 club.
3. Jrue: Become the difference maker in the playoffs and be a participant in the first All-defensive team.
4. Donte: Become a feared shooter and the fourth star on the team.
5. Brook: Become more efficient with his choices on court. Be a candidate for DPOY.
6. Forbes: Becoming a reliable starter for a contending team. Being regarded a decent defender.
7. Portis: Becoming the energy boost on the floor the team needs, contributing on both sides of the floor, being a playoff stud.
8. Craig: Be part of the best defensive lineup in the NBA. Excelling at his defensive assignments.
9. Pat: Being consistent great and smarter on defense.
10. Nwora: Making a difference with his spot up shooting. Getting praised for his team defense.
11. Merrill: Take on the role Bogdan was destined to take on the team.
12. DJ Wilson: Affect games with his shooting and defense. Getting really comfortable out there.
13. Thanasis: See the floor for much more minutes by improving as a 3 and D option on the team.
14. DJ Augustin: Be reliable when called upon. Giving to the team a smarter choice and a real option in crunch time.
15. Diakite: Get his body ready for the NBA. Get as many experience as possible on the court.
