Giannis took his MVP season from a year ago and improved on it with an impressive stat line of 29.5/13.6/5.6. He had already won the Defensive Player of the Year award this season, making him the 3rd player in history to win MVP and DPOY in the same season.
Additionally, he was named 1st Team All-NBA and 1st Team All-Defense, so adding an MVP award was a nice topping on the cake. Giannis is the first player to win consecutive MVP awards since Steph Curry did so in 2015 and 2016. Giannis is also one of 14 players to win multiple NBA MVP awards joining the likes of great players like Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Larry Bird, Michael Jordan and LeBron James.
Giannis has already joined some elite company with these trophies. Now he just needs a Larry O’Brien to complete the set.
